UFC president Dana White has announced that Colby Covington will be challenging for the welterweight title next at the post-fight press conference at UFC 286. However, former UFC fighter and comedian Brendan Schaub has come across a conspiracy theory on ‘Chaos’ being chosen as Leon Edwards‘ next opponent.

Colby Covington arrived in London to act as the backup fighter to the UFC 286 headliner. But the fight went on as scheduled and Covington made his only appearance of the night at the post-fight press conference. He also added that he lost 18 pounds to be able to get ready for this fight. Dana White took into consideration this professional act while choosing him as the next contender. However, Schaub suggests another way of looking into the situation.

Brendan Schaub reiterated the incident between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington when both fighters got into a scuffle that ended up with ‘Chaos’ filing a lawsuit against the former BMF champion. Schaub finds it strange that all that drama had cooled down. He said, “Does nobody think it’s weird that the Masvidal drama, all that’s gone away?”

He wonders if the UFC struck a deal with Covington to let it slide. This is in regard to Jorge Masvidal’s fight against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. He said, “Maybe the UFC went to him [Covington] ‘Hey, Drop all that stuff. You come back, we’ll give you a title shot. Drop all that Bullsh*t because we have Masvidal fight Gilbert Burns. We need to move on.”

The popular comedian also offered a unique perspective into Covington’s mentality and way of thinking.

Brendan Schaub believes Covington will earn more from the fight than the lawsuit against Jorge Masvidal

Schaub empathized with ‘Chaos’ by looking at the situation from the welterweight star’s point of view. He claimed that there are more benefits in fighting Leon Edwards than suing Jorge Masvidal. He said, “Put yourself in Colby’s shoes. Do you think you’re gonna make more money suing Masvidal for that incident outside the Miami restaurant or do you think you’ll make more money fighting Leon Edwards for a world title shot?”

He mentions that Covington can prove to be a tough opponent for Leon Edwards. But there is a lot of money to be made from this fight. “It’d be a tough fight for Leon. Do you think the potential to make more money is in fighting for a world title on pay-per-view or suing Jorge Masvidal?”
