The New Orleans Police Department has issued MMA veteran and UFC legend Nate Diaz with an arrest warrant after choking social media sensation Logan Paul’s lookalike, Rodney Peterson, in the streets. However, former UFC star Jake Shields has produced some evidence that suggests that Diaz was only trying to defend himself.

Nate Diaz choked Rodney Peterson unconscious after putting him in a guillotine hold this past Saturday. Moreover, the social media star hit the pavement hard after blacking out, suffering from a nasty injury on the back of his head. But Diaz’s former teammate claims that Peterson was looking for attention, which led to the scuffle in New Orleans.

The spokesperson for the NOPD, Karen Boudrie, confirmed that Nate Diaz has been charged after the police gathered video evidence that saw the former UFC star allegedly choke Rodney Peterson out on the streets last weekend. However, she mentioned that the Stockton native is not in custody at the moment.

The charges slammed on Nate Diaz could prove to be detrimental to the 38-year-old MMA veteran. However, he has received support from a UFC alum as well.

Jake Shields comes to Diaz’s aid

Former UFC star and submission grappler Jake Shields recently shared a video on Twitter where he explained that Nate Diaz was not the aggressor in the scuffle. He wrote: “In this video you can clearly see Rodney Peterson is the aggressor and Nate’s defending himself.”

The five-time submission grappling champion also said that Peterson was a professional fighter who wanted to get some attention by using the 38-year-old MMA veteran as bait. “Rodney is a professional fighter trying to use Nate to make a name for himself.” Jake Shields doubled down on his claims of Logan Paul’s lookalike being a fighter by sharing a screenshot of Peterson’s Instagram profile. He added, “Here is the guy [Peterson]. He’s looking clearly looking for attention.”
