Can Amir Albazi rise from his brutal defeat and challenge the UFC flyweight elite again?

“I will be back, is what Amir Albazi had to say about his brutal UFC maiden loss against Brandon Moreno. Moreno and Albazi had a showdown in the flyweight division and even though the loss was a decision, the fight was brutal. Albazi unfortunately lost the fight and also failed to execute Max Holloway’s classic signature move which even prompted reactions from MMA fans online.

Moreno’s intense strikes in the last 30 seconds, had a brutal effect on Albazi who was left bruised. This is when he pointed towards the ground to signal the same move that Holloway did for Justin Gaethje. However, Moreno ignored it and got the best of Albazi, while he continued striking. Moreno secured a unanimous decision against ‘The Prince’ laying his future groundwork. ‘The Assassin Baby’ now has 10 wins in the UFC flyweight division. However, the Iraqi had a fall and needs to get back up from this setback and he was pretty positive regarding the same.

He posted his sentiments on X and thanked his supporters with a promise. Albazi said, “I didn’t think I was gonna spend the night in the hospital. But Brandon Moreno was the better man tonight.  It’s our night but like he said maybe not today maybe tomorrow. I will be back. I will be back better than this. Thank you, guys, for all the support.”

The video clearly showed how battered he was from the fight but he survived and was at the hospital-which he did not expect at the start of the fight. It was almost a déjà vu of Khalil Rountree Jr’s night where he too was battered by Alex Pereira and had to get stitches on his nose and eyes. However, even the light heavyweight contender showed a positive attitude against the loss.

On the other hand, when we see the winner Brandon Moreno, he is locked in, for his future challenges. After proving his mettle against Albazi, Moreno is itching to get back into the title conversation.

Moreno sent a scathing message to Alexandre Pantoja, who will defend his title against a debuting Kai Asakura at UFC 310. He said, “I just want to be up on the top again. I want my title back. This is just a reminder for the rest of the division. I never say anything, I’m always very respectful with everybody but the man put me somewhere here and I’ll be the worst person on the planet,” during the post-fight interview.

It’s a thrilling time for the flyweight division, especially with the title going up for grabs at UFC 310. But we still need to wait to see whether ‘The Assassin Baby’ can reach the record of a 3-time champ, and that depends on the results of the December 2024 PPV. After back-to-back losses, Moreno needed to make a statement and he did, with a decisive win over a top-five contender.

During his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, he sent a chilling warning to the rest of his division. “Man, I wanna eat! I wanna eat a lot,” Moreno stated. “I just want to be on the top again, I want my title back! This is just a reminder for the rest of the division, I never say anything! I’m always very respectful to everybody. But put someone here and I’ll be the baddest f***ing person on the planet!”
