Unlike any other sports promotion, UFC has had hardly any competition out there. Since its inception in 1993, the promotion has transformed itself into a massive MMA behemoth. But it seems that the MMA landscape is slowly starting to shift. Enter the PFL, the up-and-coming contender, ready to throw its hat (or maybe headgear?) into the ring.
CEO of META Mark Zuckerberg’s MMA trainer Khai Wu recently made a buzz on the alleyways of social media due to the fact that he has signed a contract with the PFL to compete under its banner. Let’s examine the reasons behind his decision to become a part of Donn Davis’ promotion, as he recently explained on the ES FanCast, hosted by Noah Lack in an ES exclusive interview.

Our host Noah Lack had the privilege to host to Khai Wu. While having a conversation surrounding Mark Zuckerberg’s fighting name, Lack inquired Wu about his contract with PFL. Lack asked Wu about the specific details of how the deal came to be.
Khai Wu stated that it was PFL who approached him. He said, “ I spoke with Lauren, and a couple of other promotions reached out, but what I really liked about PFL was that they’re kind of straight to the point. I like it when people don’t fluff things up and just say this and say that, and sell you all the good stuff”
He continued, “But for PFL, they’re just kind of straight to the point. They told me ‘Here are the pros, here are the cons. It’s up to you what you want to do.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s kind of cool,'” said Wu.
He further added, “I think PFL wants the best fighters in the world, or they want to build them, so they’re like, ‘Hey, are you going to get a couple more fights before we sign you? Can you be more active?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, absolutely.'” Down in the conversation, Wu added why he joined PFL.

Wu reveals why PFL appealed to him more than the UFC
There’s a looming curiosity among the general populace about the inner workings of MMA promotions such as the UFC and PFL when it comes to their relationships with fighters. When Noah Lack inquired about this to Khai Wu, it appeared that Wu didn’t have a comprehensive understanding of what transpires behind the scenes. He said, ” I’ve heard things, but I’ve never interacted with Dana [White] personally and PFL personally.”
He later stated, “I can’t really say all that, but what I do like, the standout, is that you have a million-dollar tournament in PFL versus UFC, where there is no tournament.” Just like Francis Ngannou and Jake Paul, Wu seems to be of the notion that PFL puts more weight behind the ‘prize’ in prize-fighting.
