UFC welterweight prospect Ian Garry had an impressive outing this past weekend at UFC Charlotte. The undefeated Irish star scored a dominant first-round KO win over veteran Daniel Rodriguez. With a 12-0 professional record and a 5-0 UFC record, Garry is climbing the ladder to superstardom like his idol and compatriot Conor McGregor.
‘The Future’ has always reiterated how McGregor’s meteoric rise and career inspired him to follow in his steps. And much like the ‘Notorious’ he has big ambitions for the next steps in his career. Now, Garry has announced one of his future goals, one McGregor did in his heyday, and his fanbase is sure to be buzzing with this one.

After his win at UFC Charlotte, Ian Machado Garry called out fellow welterweight star Neil Magny. Magny is currently sitting at the #11 spot in the rankings. With Garry likely to enter the rankings after the next update, a win over Magny could start his climb up the ladder.
Furthermore, the Irishman wants another contender from the top 15 after he beats Magny so that he can persuade the UFC to return to Ireland. During a recent appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’, the 12-0 fighter laid out his plans.

He said, “When I beat Neil Magny, when I smoke someone else in that top 15, I’m going to be able to pull [the UFC] back to Europe, to get that Irish base breathing again, to get everybody hyped, to get that fire burning.”
If Garry can pull it off, he will cement himself as Ireland’s next sporting megastar by doing the same thing McGregor did for his country nine years ago. It will be a real feather in the cap of the up-and-coming fighter and will bring him one step closer to mimicking the iconic legacy of his predecessor.

UFC last visited The Emerald Isle all the way back in July 2014. UFC Fight Night 46, headlined by Conor McGregor vs. Diego Brandao in the O2 Arena was a memorable night for the Irish fans. Homecoming for McGregor and several other Irish stars, the event was an iconic one for McGregor’s career and for the Irish fans.
Like Garry, McGregor had also promised to bring the UFC to Ireland. ‘The Notorious’ kept his word and then some. Fans will have to wait and see if Machado Garry can do the same.
