Jorge Masvidal has been in the world of fighting for more than two decades. According to Chael Sonnen, the fight that put Masvidal on the radar was his famous knee KO against Ben Askren. However, Masvidal did not make a lot of money in that fight, according to Sonnen. He talked about how Nate Diaz calling out Masvidal for a fight was the time Masvidal made good money.
Diaz’s call-out led to the famous fight between him and Masvidal for the ‘BMF title’. “And he (Nate Diaz) called out Masvidal, he called for East Coast versus West Coast gangster battle that they went and created a title over. That was so effective that Madison Square Garden sold out. It was so effective that the biggest star in all of Hollywood played a part. That is the night where he made the whole bunch of money,” Sonnen said.
Jorge Masvidal won the fight via TKO. He won the customized BMF title, which was handed to him by Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson.

As per Sonnen, Masvidal’s biggest payday came after his BMF title fight. It was Masvidal’s short-notice fight against Kamaru Usman. This fight was scheduled just eight days before the event, and Masvidal had to fly to a different continent to take on the champion. Despite the odds, Masvidal put up a valiant effort and earned a sizable paycheck for his troubles.
Masvidal lost the fight via decision, but fans praised ‘Gamebred’ for the excellent performance he put up against Usman. He reportedly earned $1.3 million for that fight.
