Joe Rogan returned to Netflix for his standup special on August 4. But it was his popular podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience that turned out to be the butt of jokes and mockery. The JRE has been host to some of the biggest names across various walks of life, with guests ranging from Noble Prize holders to Grammy Award winners. With 17.1 million subscribers on YouTube, its popularity has soared and it also means any mistake on the show is amplified to a great degree.

While the podcast has been known for many stimulating, thought-provoking as well as controversial conversations, over time many of its goof-ups have also come to light. Avid fans of the podcast will recall the May episode where Rogan embarrassed himself with a goof-up about the ‘cough button’ leaving fans in splits. Well, this time it was yet another unintentionally funny moment that caught the attention of fans, leaving Rogan and the JRE producer  Jamie Vernon red-faced.

The August 7 edition of JRE saw Sara Imari Walker, an American astrobiologist and theoretical physicist make an appearance. But the episode title on YouTube had a minor spelling mistake in Rogan’s name. It read, “Joe Roghan Experience #2184 – Sara Imari Walker.” This led to a barrage of comments on social media with fans making fun of the JRE team. But this wasn’t the first time when the 56-year-old JRE host was left embarrassed.

On the May 25 episode, Rogan welcomed Jeremie and Edouard Harris, who are respectively the CEO and CTO of Gladstone, an organization that promotes the responsible development and adoption of artificial intelligence. During the conversation, Rogan tried to clear his throat and coughed loudly into the microphone, believing it was turned off.

He could be heard saying, “What the f**k is wrong with my voice today? [coughs, apparently believing the microphone was turned off] Thank God I got a cough button. I’m like a professional.” Rogan had thought he was on mute but that wasn’t the case.

That episode also saw Jamie Vernon’s skills as a barista called into question by Rogan. Nearly an hour into the episode, the UFC color commentator complained to Vernon that the “coffee sucks.” “I don’t know what happened but you made it like, it’s literally like almost like water. Can we get some more?” Rogan added.

However, after making alterations, Rogan once again brought up the issue. “Jamie, this is still super watered down,” he said, prompting Vernon to reply, “There’s a ton of coffee in there.” The back and forth ended with Rogan saying he would “stir it up.”

This time around the fans called out Vernon, known as “Young Jamie,” after another blunder by the JRE team

Joe Rogan and Jaimie Vernon left in embarrassment following mistake

Rogan’s stand-up special on Netflix after a gap of six years was met with an underwhelming response. However, when it comes to podcasts, he still rules the roost. In February this year, Rogan signed a new multiyear deal with Spotify worth $250 million. The deal unlike his previous one allowed distribution of his popular podcast on YouTube.

With a growing audience on YouTube, JRE has amassed over 5 billion views since it began airing on the platform. This sort of reach and eyeballs mean even the slightest of errors cannot go unnoticed. After coming across the “Joe Roghan” issue in the video title, one fan called out Jamie Vernon and wrote, “Title reads Joe Roghan … Fix it Jaime!”

Jamie faced more music, as another fan threw a sarcastic jibe at him writing, “Jaime got an A in Physics, but he did not win the Spelling Bee.” These sorts of mistakes also tend to drive engagement in the comment section, a key part of boosting the video content. Given the popularity of JRE, a deliberate mistake to drive up the numbers seems unlikely, but the fans weren’t forgiving.

One fan noted, “Jamie knows how to boost comments!” This error does hint that someone behind the scenes manually types these details about the video during upload. This particular thought left one fan bemused. Their comment read “Joe Roghan Experience #2184… wait, you’re telling me you actually type these out by hand every time? WOW! Way more hands on than I expected, LOL.”

A few netizens sarcastically mentioned that it was the first episode of ‘Joe Roghan Experience’. One fan wrote, “This is my first time watching Joe Roghan. Can’t wait.” Another comment read, “Came here for the Joe Rogan experience, stayed for Joe Roghan experience.”

Errors in the titles of YouTube videos aren’t something uncommon. But they can be rectified pretty easily. Notably, even after fans pointed it out, the title is still riddled with the same error. How long before the JRE team corrects it? Weighing in on this, one fan wrote, “We are in a simulation. This will get corrected and then we will argue for years about whether there really ever was a Joe Roghan. But, in an infinite universe there has to be. Just like the monkey that could type out the works of Shakespeare absolutely correct.”
