Conor McGregor is popular for his antics, trash talk, and unforgettable fights. In November 2016, he delivered a standout display against Eddie Alvarez during UFC 205. ‘The Notorious’ floored Alvarez slightly after three minutes into their second round. During this period, McGregor also possessed the UFC featherweight championship and bravely moved up a division to challenge the UFC lightweight titleholder. This remarkable showdown had spectators at Madison Square Garden utterly captivated.
Years later, the MMA community still talks about the moment when the Irishman held titles in two UFC weight classes simultaneously. His triumph over Alvarez continues to send chills down the spines of combat sports lovers. One of those who praise McGregor’s accomplishments is the UFC legend Chael Sonnen. Recently, ‘The American Gangster’ called out UFC Hall of Famer and McGregor’s former opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for not adding ‘Mystic Mac’ to the GOAT list. Chael Sonnen was talking in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel. During that time, he said that Nurmagomedov didn’t add McGregor to the GOAT list because of their rivalry. Five years ago McGregor and Nurmagomedov locked horns against each other in UFC 229. Back then, ‘The Eagle’ defeated ‘Mystic Mac’ in the fourth round via submission. From then on, the two were the biggest rivals in the history of the promotion. Sonnen believed that it was because of this that the Dagestani fighter didn’t acknowledge McGregor’s accomplishments.
‘The American Gangster’ said, “I would expect nothing else from Khabib, but why isn’t Conor on here? Conor McGregor has won so many World Championships. He forgot Conor McGregor literally trademarked the phrase champ champ. Now I find that hilarious because he was a champ champ champ. I watched him beat Eddie. I watched him beat Aldo. I watched him beat Mendes…Why would not he make the list? Conor McGregor won so many World Championships.” From Sonnen’s words, it is clear that he holds McGregor in high regard. Moreover, he expects the world to respect McGregor for his monumental achievements.
