UFC star Paulo Costa is ready to lay his hands on Khamzat Chimaev. The Brazilian fighter has hinted at a sensational match against ‘Borz’. The two fighters have dropped verbal sludges at each other in recent months, teasing a probable showdown between them. But, all hopes were dashed when the UFC announced the matchup between Costa and Ikram Aliskerov for UFC 291. Uncertainty ensued when the promotion canceled the bout as the PPV inched closer. With no explanation offered, the UFC left the fans in the dark. However, it appears something escalated behind closed doors, giving fans a new mouthwatering contest.

‘Borrachinha’ is on a long layoff since his last win against Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. Since then, he found himself engulfed in controversies and proved a tough nut to crack as he negotiated a new contract with the UFC. The same proved a hindrance when the UFC wanted to book him against Robert Whittaker and he put the promotion to shame, as he publicly rejected agreeing to a fight against the former champion. The UFC eventually canceled the fight at UFC 284 and the cycle continued as the promotion announced another cancelled bout against Aliskerov. This time the reason is something else as the promotion is probably aiming at a grudge match.

Paulo Costa is ready to go blow for blow against Khamzat Chimaev

The 32-year-old turned to his Instagram handle and shared an unofficial poster of UFC 294. The poster features him and the Swede fighter in a split image as it announces the clash scheduled for the UFC’s annual event in Abu Dhabi.

The caption of the post reads “⚡Paulo Costa’s reaction to the cancellation of the fight with Ikram Aliskerov. “Paulo Costa’s fight has been canceled because he is fighting Khamzat Chimaev at #UFC294 in Abu Dhabi,” Costa said.[translated]

This announcement also aligns with Costa’s recent dig at the welterweight fighter when he announced to expose him in Abu Dhabi. He recently turned to Twitter as he took a dig at Chimaev’s remarks to Kamaru Usman.

He wrote, “Gourmet Chen Chen me and u knows I’m going to Abu Dhabi To expose you badly and u know that. You got scared since I meet u in UFC PI.” Further, Costa called him a “little insecure weirdo”.

Notably, UFC 294 will take place on October 21, at the Etihad Arena with no headliners officially announced yet. Some have theorized Islam Makhachev will defend his lightweight title on the Abu Dhabi card. But there is no consensus on his opponent.
