Robert Whittaker will take on Jared Cannonier at UFC 254 this weekend. On any other fight card, the aforementioned fight would be all over the news. However, it’s being overshadowed by the behemoth of a fight that is Justin Gaethje vs Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Reaper’ vs ‘The Killa Gorilla’ is a huge clash in the middleweight division. This fight has tremendous implications on the title picture with the winner most likely getting the next title shot against Israel Adesanya.  For Jared Cannonier, it’s a good opportunity to secure his first title shot. On the other hand, for Whittaker, it is a stepping stone to a re-match against ‘Izzy’.

In a recent interview with BT Sport, Adam Catterall asked Robert Whittaker what he thinks Jared Cannonier does well and how he fares against his opponent.

‘The Reaper’ replied,” He’s tough. He hits hard. He is very well rounded, he’s resilient, that’s a key word with this guy…. I don’t see him having any angle that I’m not better than him at. I look forward to this fight, it’s 15 minutes which is a huge change.

The former champion continued, “I look forward to leading the dance. Taking this fight wherever I want it to. I can take this fight whenever I want to. I have every skillset under the sun to take this fight and beat him across the board.”

Jared Cannonier goes into this fight on the back of a three-fight win streak. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ has stopped Hermansson, Silva, and Branch on this way to ‘The Reaper’. Cannonier has won a staggering 69% of his fights via TKO/KO. His power will play an enormous factor in the fight.
