In UFC, the action almost always spills out of the ring. The press conference hypes the match and then there are social media wars to supplement that. Something similar is happening with the Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis. The two are at loggerheads and there’s bad blood, now that racial slurs have been involved.

The middleweight champion is headstrong about facing du Plessis owing to an offensive comment made by the latter. du Plessis has an important match coming up, against Robert Whittaker which is scheduled for July 9, at UFC 290. Dana White has been mum about who will be facing the current champion but by the look of things, there is a possibility that it could be du Plessis.

Adesanya was infuriated as Dricus du Plessis questioned his African roots. The Stylebender is hellbent on picking du Plessis as his next opponent, only to obliterate him in the Octagon. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, du Plessis described his side of the story and divulged what was on his mind. Talking about the Whittaker fight and how people have advised him against it, the South-African fighter called himself a ‘warrior’ and said he wasn’t there to make smart decisions. He was there to fight.

Now I don’t want to get that title shot based on some hype created by – I don’t even know what – some, some guy, who has the title who is behaving like a little child and overreacting, and now the fight is happening because of that. I want to deserve my title shot, I don’t wanna get – be handed a title shot. I’m gonna deserve my belt and that’s why I wanted that Whittaker fight” said the South-African Middleweight.

When the interviewer asked him who he thought would be tougher to prepare for, Dricus du Plessis smartly answered, “Uh, it’s a very good question because you know if you go on how good they are, I mean, in terms of how good both are, there’s really not a lot separating them.”
