Joe Rogan has found success as a podcaster, commentator, stand-up comic, and reality show host. The 55-year-old has now resigned to mostly just commentating and managing his comedy club. However, his love for martial arts remains unchanged. A black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Rogan, is also an ardent Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast with a black belt in the discipline. Further, he preaches the advantages of practicing Jiu-Jitsu during his podcast episodes.
It seems Rogan’s advocacy of Jiu-Jitsu has found results, a fact that can be certified by popular BJJ star Craig Jones. The no-gi competition recently revealed that people like Rogan, who preach the values of Jiu-Jitsu, have helped popularize the discipline among common people.
Jones even argues that people like Rogan may have done more to grow the sport than BJJ promoters like Mo Jassim or competitions like ADCC and IBJJF championships.

Craig Jones discusses how Joe Rogan helped grow Jiu-Jitsu
In a recent episode of the ‘El Segundo’ podcast, Craig Jones credited Joe Rogan with popularizing Jiu-Jitsu. Jones said that in his opinion, the growth of the sport depended on how many new people signed up for Jiu-Jitsu classes or went to gyms to learn.
In his opinion, it did not motivate them to do that after watching ADCC or IBJJF tournaments. He said, “I can’t say many people would watch an ADCC or an IBJJF and decide to start doing Jiu-Jitsu. If anything, if anything they watched a Joe Rogan podcast clip on YouTube and he spoke of the virtues of Jiu-Jitsu and they thought ‘yeah, I’ll give that shot’ you know?”
Further, he added, “Joe Rogan helped rebrand who you think does Jiu-Jitsu because he gave exposure to people like Eddie Bravo.”

The Australian, who has trained the like of Alexander Volkanovski, had an interesting perspective on the subject. The 31-year-old believes the sport is not related to the competition. He said that promoters like Mo Jassim have inspired people to compete with their performances on ADCC. However, for Craig Jones, “the real growth of the sport’s probably from people like (Joe) Rogan on podcasts and stuff.”
What are your thoughts on Jones’ comments? Do you think he has a point? Are you someone who practices Jiu-Jitsu? If so, what motivated you to try it out?
