UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya stirred up quite a controversy recently. Dricus Du Plessis and he had been beefing for a while. However, it all started going south when the fighters started talking about ‘African roots’. The beef turned really ugly, and the two confronted each other after Du Plessis defeated Robert Whittaker at UFC 290.

After the fight, Adesanya stepped into the ring and had a verbal exchange with Du Plessis that was anything but pretty. The champ proceeded to call Du Plessis the ‘n-word’ multiple times. The stage was set for these two to go to battle but due to an injury, Du Plessis had to back out. However, as Israel Adesanya recently revealed, he is still rooting for that fight to happen – because it is really important.

As much as the fans wanted to see both Adesanya and Du Plessis take it all out in the ring, it will not happen – not now, at least. According to sources, Du Plessis sustained some injuries from the Whittaker fight that forced him out of his fight with Adesanya. Controversial Middleweight fighter Sean Strickland is now facing the Stylebender at the UFC 293 main event.

However, Adesanya still gives the Du Plessis fight a lot of importance and is waiting for it to happen. In a recent interview with Mike Bohn from MMAJunkie, Adesanya was asked about some of his recent statements. Apparently, the champ has said that if Khamzat Chimaev wins his fight against Paulo Costa, he could be next for him. Pointing this out, Bohn asked Adesanya if he still wanted the Du Plessis fight to happen.
