At UFC 286, Rafael Fiziev lost to Justin Gaethje in the co-main event of the card. The two lightweights went toe-to-toe for three rounds in a closely contested match. Despite a strong start, Fiziev fell short in the final round. This led to a unanimous decision loss for him and a victory for Gaethje. He didn’t just lose the match, but also his undefeated streak. Making this his second loss in UFC and MMA ever since his promotional debut back in 2019.
But this loss wasn’t the only source of disappointment for the Azerbaijani fighter. As expected by the style of the two strikers, both of them went completely wild in terms of exchange. Especially, Fiziev with his tremendous pressure, despite the onslaught from his American rival. By the end, this left him getting badly busted up in his face. With a single glance, one could tell the cuts demanded quick medical attention. But much to his dismay, he was left waiting in the hospital before the care arrived.

Recently, Rafael Fiziev sat down with John Hyon Ko of TheAllStar to talk about his recovery and possible return. But amidst the talks, he revealed the uncanny experience he had after his clash with ‘Highlight.’ According to the fighter, he was left waiting for five hours in a London-based hospital before any medical could arrive. Showing his disappointment with the UFC’s medical care, “Ataman” said:
“And we waiting like when [the doctor] finish everything, [then] he does stitches for me, you know? And we wait five hours bro after this fight. Five hours I’m just sitting and waiting, something.”
This statement comes off as really concerning, considering the gruesome nature of the sports. Previously, many fighters, including Tony Ferguson and Francis Ngannou, have called out the company on this matter. Recently, even the US Federal review questioned the UFCs fighter’s safety and well-being. With the company now worth at 12.3 Billion dollars, this puts a question mark on the promotion’s ethics and business strategy.
Fans react to Fiziev’s revelations
Recently, the statement of Rafael Fiziev went viral on the internet and found its way to Reddit. As expected, soon Dana White and the company were on the receiving end of much criticism. Some of the selected ones go like this:
“Didn’t they kick Johnny Walker out on the street after a fight one time?”
“This is so funny, UFC comes to England and uses the public healthcare system instead of being some private firm for the weekend.”
“With the staggering amount of profit the UFC makes, you’d think they’d have proper after-fight care for their fighters.”
“You’d think the UFC would pay for private healthcare lol”
But just like the fighter’s pay, this topic seems to be polarizing as well. Many came out in support of UFC and Dana White. Instead of them, many blamed the healthcare system of London and most other places.
“5 hours for bruising and cuts, not bad. In Canada, you would be waiting for 12 plus.”
“Sounds more like a hospital problem to me. Sorry, the UFC doesn’t own a hospital, I guess?”

“The fight was in London and anyone from the UK can tell you that if you need the hospital on a Saturday night, you’ll be waiting a long time.”
“Didn’t he get transported to a hospital? Why blame the UFC?”
“How is this a UFC issue? Lol. They send them to the hospital. The hospital determines what happens at the hospital.”
