In episode #137 of JRE MMA Show, Rogan invited Masvidal to the set. Undeniably, as the fighter has been in his late 30s, Rogan asked him about his retirement plans. Masvidal answered that he would retire when he would no longer be able to keep up with ‘the pack’ at the American Top Team. Furthermore, he said that he didn’t want to be a stepping stone for anyone.
Then, Masvidal talked about Johnny Eblen and the training sessions he has with the Bellator fighter. He said that although there were days when he stood his ground against Eblen, he would quit when he got worse in the sessions. “So, the times that I start to just get the worser end of the sessions, it’s time for me to hang it up,” said Masvidal.

Finally, the fighter believed that didn’t need to get inside the arena to find out if he needs to retire. He said, “I don’t need to go into the ring to find out. Once I can’t keep up with the pack no more, I know my time has come. And it’s going to hurt like f**k, because this is all I’ve known. This is my first, my last love. This is my everything. But, at the same time, I’m not going to do a disservice to my body and let guys beat me that could have never held my jockstrap probably, during my prime, you know. So, that, that’ll be when I call it quits. Once the gym is telling me like hey, you know, your time has come, I’m cool with it, you know. I just f**king gracefully bow out.”
