It has been far too long since arguably the ‘Greatest of All Time’ of MMA, Jon Jones, hinted that he would return to the Octagon after beating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November last year. Before the fight, Jones said he might retire after UFC 309, but then he didn’t. In fact, he said that “if everything goes right, maybe we’ll give you guys what you want to see,” in his Octagon interview. Whether he was speaking about unifying the title with the interim champion, or chasing what is a now-defunct legacy fight against Alex Pereira, we’re not sure what he was alluding to. Regardless of what it was, fans are clamoring for one fight and one fight alone.

Taking over the MMA community with his smooth movement and quick combinations is Tom Aspinall, the United Kingdom’s biggest combat sports star and the interim heavyweight champion of the UFC. He is the only opponent both fans and veterans alike want to see ‘Jonny Bones’ clash against. But their hopes of ever witnessing the fight have only been met by disappointment and delay.

Tom Aspinall has been making a lot of noise, calling out the undisputed champion, week after week, only to be met by radio silence from the UFC 2-weight champion. In fact, Jones has been making the headlines for all the reasons other than the announcement of a fight against the interim champion—from joining a movement to take on the ‘fraudulent’ healthcare system or teaming up with Mike Perry as the co-owner of Dirty Boxing Championship.

And why are fans clamoring for this one fight? Well, on paper, Tom Aspinall has done everything (and more) to deserve that unifying title shot. Imagine defending your interim title once, and being the longest reigning interim champion to date. Meanwhile, matchmakers and pundits are speculating a showdown between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane. But then, along came yet another cryptic post from Jones, this time definitely alluding to his next fight.

Through his X account recently, Jones shared his room of fight posters from throughout his career, revealed he hasn’t hung the Stipe fight poster until now, and for the highlight of his revelation, gave a hint on his ‘one last perfect spot left’ on the wall. While Jones talked about his past, prime, and present, he said: “The wall’s almost filled… but trust me, the story’s still being written. The best is yet to come.”

If you are new to the sport, you may feel like this news should break the internet. After all, he did just drop a huge hint on the most awaited fight of the year, the MMA community should lose its mind, right? In actuality, the hints and announcements have always led to a dead-end whenever Jones has talked about his future. Time after time, fans have been hyped about some sort of confirmation from their heavyweight champion, and time and time again they have been cruelly let down.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Jon Jones ever give fans the Aspinall fight, or is it all just smoke and mirrors?

“We don’t trust you.”- Fans react to Jon Jones’ hint about possible Aspinall fight

It’s safe to say that by this point, Jones has made a joke out of every fan who loves to watch the best compete with the best and of course, their reactions to his words showed their distrust in the UFC ‘GOAT’. One such fan commented, “He’s never gonna fight him. He’s in the Connor space now, forever a tease because he’s addicted to the attention” as another fan joined him saying, His marketing is as good as his fighting.”

One fan went one step further and talked about Stipe Miocic filling up the ‘perfect spot’ as they said, “As you’ve just said you still haven’t framed and hung the stipe fight… that’s what’s filling the space.. your never fighting again!” Quite the frustration from the same fans who would defend Jones to the end of world just a few years ago.

There are however, many who still love ‘Jonny Bones’ and rather believe he will destroy Aspinall as two hyped fans commented, “Uh oh he’s gonna beat the everliving sh** out of Aspinall ain’t he.” and , “When he absolutely mauls Aspinall I don’t wanna hear SH** from anyone ever again about this man. The clear best fighter to ever live and the next best isn’t close to the same level.” Indeed, even in frustration and anger towards such a legend, we cannot forget what he has accomplished in the UFC and how he has dominated his opponents across fights.

And of course, the best part of the comment section—hilarious comments were also gathering attention. One such comment said, “ITS CONFIRMED JONES VS DC 3.” while another fan said, “His planning to fight Tito Ortiz next ain’t he.” Adding relief to any frustrating situation, even these comments highlight the main issue fans have with Jon Jones. He will fight anyone but the most deserving challenger to his throne, Tom Aspinall.

With all that being said, will this ‘one last perfect spot’ finally evolve into the biggest fight of the year? Will this one hint take us finally to the first official announcement of a bout between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, or is it all just a public stunt, again? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
