Is Jake Paul biting off more than he can chew with Alex Pereira? What do you think?

Did Jake Paul make a huge blunder in calling out Alex Pereira? Well, it seems like that’s been the general consensus among fans after a recent video of Pereira dealing with a heavyweight boxer with seemingly no problem at all was shared online! ‘Poatan’ is currently riding high after his UFC 303 clash against Jiri Prochazka where he finished his opponent in the second round with a devastating head-kick.

The Brazilian is also one of the most decorated strikers to ever step foot into the Octagon as he was the first and only man to hold titles in GLORY kickboxing in two-weight divisions simultaneously. After his fight against Prochazka, Pereira received an interesting offer from British boxing superstar, Anthony Joshua who stated in a post on social media, “Alex Pereira should make a boxing debut one day.”

While ‘Poatan’ responded with his appreciation for the praise, and indicated that he’d be open to a fight but won’t be able to make it a career since he’s 37. What Joshua may not have been aware of is that Pereira already has a professional boxing record of 1-0 with a TKO win over Marcelo de Souza Cruz back in 2017.

After his recent victory over former UFC star Mike Perry, Jake Paul took the time in his post-fight interview to refer to Pereira’s response to Joshua as he stated, “Alex Pereira, you say you want to box, I’m the king of this. I’m the king of this. Come over. We can make it happen. I want you, Alex Pereira”. This also warranted the Brazilian to FaceTime the ex-Disney star. However, according to the fans online, Paul’s decision to call out ‘Poatan’ may not have been the wisest of moves after seeing his sparring footage against heavyweight boxer, Demsey McKean! Here’s a look at what the netizens had to say.

Fans believe Alex Pereira might be the worst possible call-out by Jake Paul

With Jake Paul already having a win over MMA legend Anderson Silva, fans pointed out that Alex Pereira looks more than capable of avenging his fellow Brazilian’s loss with his stellar defensive skills that were on display in the clip

“Has more head movement than all of Jake’s opponents combined minus Tommy and Anderson Silva”

Another fan made an interesting observation as they pointed out that so far in his UFC career, Pereira hasn’t been able to showcase the full extent of his striking skills due to the threat of takedowns and clinches. So what happens when he doesn’t have to worry about those things? It’s a scary thought indeed!

“Imagine how aggressive Pereira would be, knowing that are no chances of the guy taking him down so he doesn’t have to worry about this aspect of a fight…”

As explained by another fan, ‘Poatan’s famed knockout power has sent many professional fighters to sleep in both kickboxing and MMA, therefore, Paul might find himself in a very tough spot if he steps into the ring against the Brazilian

“alex would sent jake beyond the shadow realm. jake is in for a VERY rude awakening”

Pereira’s sparring partner in the clip, Demsey McKean, is currently ranked #3 in his home country of Australia and has a KO percentage of 63.64% according to BoxRec. So, Pereira being able to handle him without breaking a sweat doesn’t exactly inspire confidence amongst the fans for Paul’s chances

“McKean also happens to be a top 15 heavyweight boxer”

Another fan didn’t elaborate more as he succinctly stated that Paul’s call-out of Pereira is akin to having a “death wish”

“Jake Paul has a death wish”

However, an interesting point was also brought up by another member of the community who pointed out that there are other names besides ‘Poatan’ who can comfortably handle Jake Paul inside the squared circle. Whether the UFC ever lets these matchups happen, remains to be seen, but they would definitely be must-watch clashes

“The only guys in the UFC who can beat Jake Paul in a Box match its Poatan, Izzy, Poirier, Holloway and Connor”

In conclusion, the fans seem to think Jake Paul needs to slow down and re-evaluate who he calls out in the future. While Paul remains focused on his ambitions and is eager to take on high-profile opponents, the fan response indicates growing concern about the feasibility of such a matchup against ‘Poatan’ and its aftermath!
