Israel Adesanya never imagined it would get to this. When he first started dating Charlotte Powdrell in 2019, life finally felt settled. However, as the clock kept ticking by, what the couple didn’t realize was the timer was just about to go off. Merely a year after dating, the couple broke up, but not without some fierce drama. A recent report has also suggested that Powdrell was reportedly ordered to pay her ex-beau a staggering $500,000 after a legal battle. But how true is it? Well, we’ll tell you in a bit…
For the unversed: Charlotte Powdrell is reportedly a real estate agent based in New Zealand, and had prior experience working as a nurse. While it’s not known how the duo met, their relationship was first confirmed in 2019, when Powdrell appeared alongside Izzy after his victory over Robert Whittaker. However, what followed soon after was a lengthy mud-slinging battle…
In May 2023, the controversy reached its height, when the MMA fighter reportedly took to social media as per Pulse Sports Nigeria, to accuse his ex of demanding of his wealth despite never marrying or having children together, because they “they dated too long and she supported his career”. Talking about Paris Saint-Germain Achraf Hakimi, and his high-profile divorce with Spanish-Tunisian actress Hiba Abouk, where the latter demanded half of her husband’s property, Adesanya wrote, “Very relatable….Imagine being so f****n entitled that you think you deserve what a man has worked his whole life for. When you came in to his life with nothing and tried to leave with Million$. But I like Achraf Hakimi, my assets are protected. I woulda taken half her sh** to. But I don’t want half of NOTHING.”

Then in April that same year, the fighter shared another slew of Instagram Stories where he directed more attacks toward his ex. This time, he accused his ex of selling info about him, and said how he doesn’t care about telling the world about her either. Adesanya also mentioned, “”You have never helped me make money, only ever cost me money. Now you think you deserve half my s**t?…me loading up receipts…. Y’all shoulda left me the f–k alone! I got time and I got lawyer money.”
Three months later, Adesanya took it up a notch, during an UFC 290 event. Sporting a black t-shirt with “He is not your bank,” written in bold, it was clear the fighter was leaving no stone unturned take digs at Powdrell…
But in the wake of the drama, claims have arisen that Israel Adesanya allegedly does not have a personal account of his own. Instead, rumor has it that his mother, Taiwo, handles his finances, which led the court to determine that ‘Izzy’s net worth was zero. How did this affect Charlotte Powdrell? Well, the consequence of taking Adesanya to court ended in her having to split her own fortune, leaving the UFC star with $500,000.
The rumors first found traction on X when an user reportedly confirmed that the legal battle had reached its end. Then, an Instagram user also appeared to provide more detailed info on the unfavorable situation, and revealed how Powdrell cried “her eyes out” on losing out on half a million. However, a detailed investigation has revealed that the news is nothing more than clickbait. There is no actual or legitimate source that can confirm the conclusion of the lawsuit. However, the fact that his family manages his finances may not be false. Why?

Adesanya’s father ‘quadrupled’ his money
Managing finances can be a hefty task for celebrities, who earn seven, if not eight figures every year. But it seems Israel Adesanya didn’t have to worry about that because his father, Oluwafemi Adesanya, is a chartered accountant by profession. As such, the former UFC champion claims his father had a big role in managing his finances. And why wouldn’t he? Chartered accountants aren’t cheap to hire.
‘The Last Stylebender’ struck gold with his father—after he started making big sums, that is. In fact, Adesanya once claimed that his father helped him increase his net worth, thanks to his accounting skills and investment suggestions.

“My father is a chartered accountant. My dad has quadrupled my net worth and when I came back from China, I had like six figures,” Israel Adesanya told Demetrious Johnson not too long ago. “And then my dad’s like, ‘Mobolaji, we should invest in a house’, this and that… I thought like I don’t need that responsibility. I’d buy these chains, buy these shoes and I’d always go broke… So my first UFC paycheck. First thing I bought was my first house.”
Well, there’s a strong family bond in the Adesanya household, for sure. But there’s no confirmation about his relationships when it comes to the recent claims about his ex-girlfriend Charlotte Powdrell. Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
