Jamahal Hill‘s life has one purpose at this moment- rematch Alex Pereira. The former light heavyweight champ, after all, feels he was cheated by ‘Poatan’ in their iconic UFC 300 title clash. Fans will remember ‘Sweet Dreams’ being put to sleep in the very first round by Pereira, and Hill believes that was only possible because the Brazilian used a break in action to close the distance unfairly and catch him with a left hook that became his undoing.

This is why Hill has been angling to fight Pereira again. And he nearly got his wish recently as he ran into Pereira at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. In videos from the incident, the former 205lbs title holder could be seen walking up to ‘Poatan’ and talking trash to him. Pereira, of course, is not one to take things lying down and immediately throws some gloves Hill’s way, pointing to the octagon.

Someone thankfully intervened before things could take a left turn and the situation was diffused without any untoward incident. But some feel that this whole affair was scripted. Well X user ‘Upfront MMA’ made a post, where he pointed out how someone could be heard saying “And Action!” ‘Upfront MMA’ claimed that this meant the whole thing was scripted. And indeed someone could precisely be heard saying that. Does that mean the entire incident was staged?

While there is a chance it was, the answer is probably not. UFC PI hosts many stars on any given day, and it is not uncommon to see the UFC’s production crew follow them around, looking for some interesting moments.

The production team, which has cameramen and directors, does get a capturable moment, going through the motions of saying action and cut, not to the athletes, but to the cameraman. Not to mention, there were many angles of this altercation available online, in which it does seem a spontaneous affair. But Hill may yet get his wish of fighting the Brazilian champ, depending upon how his next fight goes.

Jamahal Hill to take on Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311

What’s your perspective on:

Was the Hill vs. Pereira altercation at UFC PI a genuine clash or just a publicity stunt?

Have an interesting take?

Jamahal Hill is set to face fellow former champion Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 next month. If Hill can defeat ‘The Czech Samurai’, he will probably be in line to rematch ‘Poatan.’ Of course, most fans think that #1 ranked Magomed Ankalaev is next for Pereira, but Hill may get to face the winner of that clash for the title.

After all, Hill is ranked #3 in the division, behind only Ankalaev, Prochazka, and of course, the champion, Pereira. But what if Hill loses? Well, then he better hope Pereira loses twice to Ankalaev. After all, even if ‘Poatan’ loses to the Dagestani, he will almost definitely get an immediate rematch.

If and only if ‘Poatan’ loses that rematch will Hill (if Prochazka beats him) be able to fight Pereira next. Otherwise, ‘Sweet Dreams’ will have to take the long road to the top of the division once again. All of this is to say that Hill’s next fight is very important for him, if he wants to fight Pereira next. What do you think about the altercation between Hill and Pereira at the UFC PI?
