The question of who is the greatest mixed martial artist of all time has once again come into focus. While fan communities keep butting heads, there is absolutely no denying that Conor McGregor is a name that everyone in the world of combat sports knows. Thanks to his sometimes ludicrous, sometimes infuriating online and offline antics, ‘Mystic Mac’ has managed to retain his fame despite his two-year absence from the octagon. With a brand new development, fans are excited to see what the Irishman has in store next.
It is certain that McGregor’s return will take the MMA community by storm and will easily become one of the biggest events in the promotion’s 3-decade-long history. A recent leak that comes from lightweight Jamie Mullarkey’s team has shed some light on ‘The Notorious’s’ comeback or at least where it might be.

In their post on his Instagram, Mullarkey’s management team revealed that the Australian would be taking on an opponent in Ireland in December. “Pleased to announce @jamie_mullarkey has signed a new multi fight deal with the @ufc. Jamie 3.1.0 in his last 4 fights will be looking to get out next in Ireland in December if we can make it happen. Congrats Jamie, well deserved 👏🏼” he wrote.

Interestingly, McGregor, who is Irish, is also slated to return to the octagon in December this year after two years out of the octagon. A comeback on his home turf, as the fans speculate, would turn it into an even bigger event. UFC CEO Dana White has not yet confirmed the event or McGregor’s return, who has not fought since July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier. However, a UFC Ireland event without McGregor seems unlikely, doesn’t it?
Fans speculate Conor McGregor might headline that card
Fans were quick to take the discussion to Reddit, and here is some of what they had to say.
One fan was happy at the news and wondered who the main event for the card would be: “That’s pretty good news if it’s true. I wonder who would headline the event.”
Another fan speculated that perhaps Conor McGregor would headline the event while bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley might be in the co-main fight in it: “Well Conor was supposed to fight December right? So maybe conor/O’Malley main /co main”
Another was excited and felt it would be a huge event if the two were to fight in Ireland: “Can u imagine this is the Conor/Chandler sh*t in Ireland? My god, that would be nuts.”

One Irish fan replied to this and said that the Irish fans would not support fellow countryman McGregor but would hope Chandler knocks him out: “Most of us Irish would be hoping Chandler flatlines him [Conor]”
Another UFC fan opined that Mullarkey’s last win against John Makdessi at UFC 293 this September was a bad decision that should have gone the other way: “His last win was a big fat robbery tho”
Over the past few years, fans have turned against McGregor because of his online and offline shenanigans. This may not look like good news for the Irishman. Yet, people like Floyd Mayweather and, more recently, Colby Covington have used it successfully to market their fights. So, it looks like time will tell how it turns out for McGregor.
