John Kavanagh a.k.a Coach Kavanagh is not just a highly respected and skilled coach, but also a shining example of a great human being. Recently, Kavanagh took time out of his busy schedule to give back to the community. Coach Kavanagh, who is the founder of Straight Blast Gym Ireland and a pioneer in the sport of mixed martial arts in the country, volunteered to provide a free MMA lesson to a non-profit organization. This Garda-backed organization, which focuses on providing support and assistance to children facing cancer and their families, was thrilled to have Coach Kavanagh share his expertise and experience with their members. In response to it, Conor McGregor gave his longtime coach’s heroic deed the highest accolades possible in response.
Coaching for a good cause
After coming back from Brazil after attending UFC 283 to corner his protégé, Johnny Walker, in his big fight, Coach Kavanagh went straight back to supporting a noble cause in his hometown. The 46-year-old collaborated with the non-profit organization, ‘Little Blue Heroes’ and provided its member with a free training session under his gym.

The (Dustin) Poirier fight, we’ve done that so many times at this stage and it’s just a weird one. Michael Chandler, a great fighter, a great athlete. They’re all brilliant.
