Can Jon Jones ever retire with a legacy like Mayweather or Brady, or is it too late?

The heavyweight division at the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been getting a bit noisy as Tom Aspinall has repeatedly asked Jon Jones for the HW championship belt. While ‘Bones’ is slated to defend his championship title against Stipe Miocic, the ‘Honey Badger’ has been making moves to grab Jones’ attention.

With the rise of Aspinall’s popularity, a fight between them is something that the fighting community greatly anticipates. However, the heavyweight champion has been tackling his age for quite a while now. Being 37 years old came with troubles with agility and strength. Owing to this, Jones has put forth his desire to take retirement and join the ranks of Floyd Mayweather and Tom Brady. But it seems like Daniel Cormier has found it all a bit too funny.

In a conversation with Ben Askren on his YouTube channel, Cormier pointed out that the UFC did not want to veer off of its decision to let Jones compete against Miocic. The fight was scheduled to take place back in 2023, however, ‘Bones’ was forced to stay back due to an injury to his pectoral muscle. But the talks about the matchup remained active in the fighting community.

Later on, the heavyweight champion revealed that he wanted to retire in style, just like Mayweather and Brady did. DC narrated, “It just seems as though the UFC is unwilling to veer off of the path that they have already committed to with Stipe versus Jones. But right now, it seems as though there should be no question as to who should fight. But Jones said, ‘I’m 37 years old. I’ve kicked everyone’s a**. My job is to finish strong and make an amazing movie. Go join Tom Brady, Floyd Mayweather, and all the other retired bada**es.’”

But with Aspinall hurtling insults and expressing his desire to upgrade his interim heavyweight championship belt, things have started to become spicier. The interim champion has referred to Miocic as Joe Biden on multiple occasions. But in case Jones defeated Miocic in their slated fight, Aspinall knew that he was the one next in line. Weighing in on that, DC said, “So, that Tom Aspinall says, ‘Please make sure you pass me the belt on the way out of the Octagon if you beat Biden.’ Tom Aspinall is… that’s funny. That’s funny. But the fact that he’s not being as respectful as he was before, I think, is a massive, massive win for Tom Aspinall. Because before, it was easy to ignore him.”

Being the interim champion of the division, fighting for the championship belt is Aspinall’s destiny. And Dana White has already confirmed it with one word.

Dana White confirms Tom Aspinall will fight the winner of Jones vs. Miocic

UFC 304 witnessed the ‘Honey Badger’ display phenomenal fighting prowess against Curtis Blaydes as he defeated the Chicago resident within the first round via knockout. But the UFC head honcho hinted at  Aspinall’s title shot hours before he clashed with Blaydes. During the pre-fight press conference for the event, a reporter asked White if the winner of Aspinall vs. Blaydes would get a fight against the winner of Jones vs. Miocic.

White didn’t waste a single moment and announced “Absolutely.” Now that the British mixed martial artist has already won the bout, all that’s left for the fight fans is to wait for Jones to clash with Miocic. Following that, Aspinall can finally have his title shot.

At the recent Contender Series press conference, White lashed out at his critics saying, “There’s no way in hell that Jon Jones doesn’t want to fight Aspinall. That I guarantee you.” The CEO also said, “If the Aspinall thing is really flying out there, I personally think Jon challenges himself and takes the fight. I think he does it.”
