Former UFC bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate is set to make a return to the UFC Octagon this weekend as she takes on Marion Reneau. Tate hasn’t fought since 2016. How she fares upon her return will be an interesting spectacle for the fans as it will give them a fair assessment of what her future in the promotion will look like.
Ahead of Tate’s return, we take a look at her husband, Johnny Nunez. Nunez is an MMA fighter as well. He competes at the lightweight division and has fought in promotions like WSOF, Bellator MMA, and most recently One Championship. The 35-year-old has also previously taken part in The Ultimate Fighter show. But he has lost all 3 of his fights there against the likes of Ryan Hall and James Krause.

After two successful amateur outings, ‘Johnny Boy’ made his professional MMA debut back in 2012. He won his first 5 fights as a professional earning 3 finishes in the process. Nunez’s first loss came against Joe Condon in 2015. A submission loss under the WSOF banner was his first setback.
He then went to try his luck in The Ultimate Fighter Season 22. However, losses to Hall and David Teymur shattered his dreams and he had to leave the show. He made a winning return to WSOF. After a lay-off of over a year, Nunez appeared at The Ultimate Fighter season 25 but suffered a submission loss against James Krause.
After another lay-off of over a year and a half, Nunez made a comeback to the sport but this time under the Bellator MMA banner. He won a decision against Josh Wick in 2018. An absence from competition for yet another year ended when Nunez made a return to the competition in late 2019 fighting in the One Championship.

Miesha Tate and Johnny Nunez: Family life
Tate and Nunez made their relationship public in 2018. The MMA couple has two kids together. They spend a happy family life. Also, Tate was involved in working with the One Championship while Nunez fought his sole fight in the promotion.
Tate will look to make a successful return to the competition this weekend. She will look to prove that she is still an important piece of the bantamweight puzzle. However, it won’t be easy after such a lengthy lay-off. But ‘Cupcake’ looks in phenomenal shape ahead of her return. Whether she is still the same skilled fighter, remains to be seen.
