Former UFC associate Francis Ngannou left the MMA community stunned when he announced he was parting ways with the promotion earlier this year. The heavyweight fighter embraced his free-agent tag instead of bending to the promotion’s whims and fancies. However, his decision split the MMA community in half and since then is heatedly argued. While speculations surfaced of the Cameroonian fight transitioning to boxing, the same is yet to materialize. Similarly, UFC legend Jose Aldo joined the bandwagon as he questioned the former heavyweight kingpin’s decision. In addition, the Brazilian fighter drew parallels with the UFC stars, such as Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey.
Notably, the 36-year-old, who finally fulfilled his long-standing dream of donning boxing gloves recently, pointed out the grim realities of his new profession to ‘The Predator’. Further, the former featherweight fighter burst the bubble of boxing as a high-paid profession.

Appearing on the Trocação Franca podcast, ‘Junior’ mentioned the desire to become a boxing champion overwhelmed Ngannou. And as a result, he shot himself in the foot.
Thus, the Manaus native said, “With all humbleness, I think Ngannou shot himself in the foot. He had everything to sign a great contract, the biggest in heavyweight, but this desire to be a boxing champion or to fight in boxing…”
Following this, he pointed out that people neglect the lower part of the boxing pyramid, which is paid little compared to the top. Therefore, he contended the UFC had more substantial salaries than boxing.
Aldo lists examples who racked up millions representing the UFC brand
Afterward, the MMA fighter-turned-boxer specified many heavyweights aimed a fight against Tyson Fury, but only a few come close. ‘Scarface’, later on, expanded on his salary contention as he put forth UFC paid well, contrary to the beliefs.
Thus, he summed up, “You can make money like boxers can. Conor [McGregor], Ronda Rousey. People say women don’t make money and she’s made it, right?”

Markedly, the Irishman fought Floyd Mayweather and collected millions while he represented the UFC. Similarly, ‘Rowdy’ took on multiple Hollywood projects as she fought under the UFC banner. Despite these two precedents, Ngannou chose to pursue his boxing dream.
