He also said, “He’s very popular right now. He’s been smashing people and that’s, he’s kind of the talk of the talk and if somebody that exciting. It’s crazy because he’s got such a big following from Russia. I think he even has more followers than the champ; than Kamaru Usman. He’s got all the Russia following this guy. So, he’s got a whole country behind him.”

He further continued, “That right there is a good incentive and excitement for Dana White in the UFC to make that fight happen. If that Gilbert Burns fight comes through but you know, on paper it should be Leon Edwards for sure.”

Thompson had faced Burns in the octagon and unfortunately lost. But he knows how good of a fighter Burns is and did not shy away from admitting this. According to Stephen Thompson, Burns has the power, however, he also pointed out that Burns tends to get tired quickly.

Hence, if the Chimaev-Burns bout is of 5 rounds, stamina might be one aspect where Burns might have to work on. Chimaev has an undefeated record, and a fight against Burns would surely be a difficult one.
