We just witnessed one of the most dangerous aspects of living in Los Angeles. The wildfires that burned through the Pacific Palisades left nothing behind except the loss of 28+ lives, 31+ missing reports, 22+ injured, and around 205,000 people evacuated from the settlements. And the damage to the infrastructure? It would cost more than $350 million to build everything back to what it was. And now, Joe Rogan has come up with a blame. He believed that Hollywood was the cause of the destruction.
During a conversation with Warren Smith on episode #2261 of the JRE, the beloved UFC color commentator pointed out that it wasn’t climate change, like everyone was thinking, that caused the wildfires. He said, “It’s not climate change. It is the climate of Los Angeles. It’s a f—ing desert. They put a city in a f—-ing desert because they wanted to film movies there.” No doubt, filming movies in Hollywood came with the advantage of evading the rains because it was a desert. And that’s the secret behind the booming $808 billion worth of industry.
Well, the climate of Los Angeles has been the same since the 1800s. It’s dry throughout the year. On top of that, there are the Santa Ana winds which enter the city every single year. Rogan continued, “They’re historic. They’ve always happened. Every year we get the Santa Ana winds. There’s a fire season for a f—-ing reason. Los Angeles has fire season… Where I used to live, it was fire season, and every time the winter would come and everything was dry, and all the vegetation was brown and the wind was whipping around, everybody would get nervous.” After all, that was the inherent nature of the place.

On top of that, Joe Rogan reflected on Elon Musk’s speech at Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. It was the mind-boggling similarity between Musk’s speech and the reality that had the JRE host take a look at the 2 faces of the coin named LA.

Before Rogan put the blame on Hollywood, he talked about the suggestions that the Tesla boss put forth for water management in the city. However, the citizens didn’t like it. He suggested that the authorities can stop the fuel for the fires, and build better water distribution systems, and sprinkler systems which could help control such calamities. He said, “Like, there’s ways to do this and he talked about those ways on the podcast and it’s, you know, eerily accurate when you see what happened to the Pacific Palisades.”
And the blame came back to the dry desert city. Rogan didn’t deny the beauty of Los Angeles. However, he simply pointed out that it was nothing short of a disaster. He claimed, “LA has always been dry. It’s a desert… I was just there last weekend. The weather’s incredible. But the city, because of their ridiculous policies, is just a disaster. A dangerous, creepy, disaster of a city.”

Earlier in July 2024, during the JRE episode #2178, Rogan told Sam Morril about his interaction with a firefighter. Well, the firefighter had predicted that the city had been getting lucky with the winds. But there’d come a day when the winds blow the wrong way, and the fire in the dry lands spread rapidly, leaving destruction in its trail till it reached the ocean. And that’s exactly what happened. Thankfully, the fires were brought into control, but the damage had already been done by then. Now, it was time to bring about changes that could prevent such damages during the wildfires.
