Conor McGregor’s UFC return has become one of the biggest ongoing sagas in the world of mixed martial arts. ‘The Notorious’ has been sidelined from competition after suffering a horrific fracture to his leg in his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. While he was expected to face Michael Chandler last year after TUF 31, the fight was delayed due to McGregor’s issues with USADA and so far, the bout is yet to receive an official confirmation date from the UFC and Dana White.

However, in a recent interview with ESPN, McGregor stated “It’s all systems go. ‘The Mac;’ ‘The Notorious’ will be returning to the UFC Octagon this summer”. As such, Joe Rogan’s remarks from 2023’s episode no. 2073 of the JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) have now provided an interesting perspective on the Irishman’s impending return in light of the latest developments!

Joe Rogan had given Conor McGregor a “strategy” for UFC comeback in 2023

In his conversation with Derek from ‘More Plates, More Dates’ or MPMD, Joe Rogan revealed the ideal plan for Conor McGregor to make his return to the UFC and ensure that his legacy as a fighter remains spotless.

Derek stated, “I don’t know, like Conor’s definitely gotta, gotta win when he f**king comes back, it’s kind of like his legacy, like not entirely hinged on it or anything but I mean, he’s got a lot to live up to…”.  Rogan then added his expert insight by stating, “Oh, yeah, yeah. But also, if you were a coach, and you wanted to look at this in terms of a long-term career strategy, I would want a tune-up fight 100%, I would not want him going right in there against Islam Makhachev.”

His remarks are interesting as there is a high likelihood that Conor McGregor will face Michael Chandler when he makes his long-awaited return to the Octagon. While ‘The Notorious’ hasn’t fought since his catastrophic outing against Poirier in 2021, Chandler also has been out of action since he was submitted by ‘The Diamond’ at UFC 281 in 2022.

Therefore, both fighters will be seeking redemption after facing setbacks in their previous fights, and the matchup also aligns with Rogan’s claims that the Irishman shouldn’t challenge someone like Islam Makhachev who currently holds the lightweight title with just one loss in his UFC career!

Michael Chandler is by no means an easy fight if McGregor’s camp is looking for a tune-up. Still, on paper, at least, he is not as dominant as the other fighters in the lightweight top 5 and is more suited to McGregor’s style (if you remember the Chad Mendes fight).

Be that as it may, in a more recent episode of the JRE, Rogan also poked holes in Conor McGregor’s recent claims about the difficulty of his acting endeavor!

McGregor’s claims about acting being a “difficult game” don’t impress Rogan

Conor McGregor recently made a stunning claim with a comparison of the difficulty between acting and fighting. During the promotional tour for his role in ‘Road House’, McGregor stated, “Acting. Time, time, time consumption, and it’s not just action and fighting and stunts, it’s also remembering the line and you have to time things correctly, you’re engaging with another person. It’s just a difficult game…”

However, Joe Rogan expressed skepticism about McGregor’s remarks on his podcast and challenged his claims about the difficulty of his Hollywood endeavor. He stated, “Listen. That’s not true. Acting in Road House or fighting Khabib again? Shut the f**k up!”

The podcast host also suggested that the Irish MMA star’s statements may have just been a part of his promotion for the movie, and he lauded him for his skills at building hype for his projects. Rogan claimed, “Listen, that guy is promoting a movie. He’s a great promoter, an amazing promoter. He’s the best promoter in the history of the sports. No one even comes close.”

While McGregor’s comments may have sparked a debate among the fans, Rogan’s perspective offers a different angle, highlighting McGregor’s dual role as both an athlete and an entertainer, which continues to captivate audiences, whether in the Octagon or on the big screen!
