Erin Blachfield knew what she wanted to do with her life since she was a child. After all, the New Jersey native started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the tender age of seven, taking to it like fish to water. By the time she turned eight, Blanchfield was well on her way to becoming a pro fighter and already competing in martial arts tournaments.

Erin Blachfield has one of the coolest nicknames in the entire business, which perfectly represents who she is as a fighter. Her moniker, ‘Cold Blooded’ was given to her by her father, who was an integral part of her martial arts journey, nurturing her passion for fighting and accompanying her to the many tournaments she would take part in.
“So my nickname is Erin ‘Cold Blooded’ Blanchfield. And my dad actually made it up. I was competing in grappling competitions and I guess I had like a pretty stoic face. Like I don’t change my emotions, like wins or losses, saying like it’s like cold-blooded. And I remember when I started fighting and they like asked me if I had like a ring name, my dad was like ‘Oh you should use that, it flows well with your name,'” she said.
Naturally, when it was time to turn pro, and she was asked for her moniker. Blanchfield’s dad came to the rescue and suggested she continue using ‘Cold Blooded’. Blanchfield agreed wholeheartedly since it encapsulated her stoic, unfazed, devil-may-care persona as a fighter.

“So I used it down once and I liked the way it sounded and it stuck ever since. I feel like it describes me and my fighting style. I have a good poker face and I know how to work,” Blanchfield added. And it is all of the qualities that underlie her nickname that led to her rapid rise in the MMA world.

Having been a bona fide martial artist since she was seven and having a grappling background, it is not surprising that she gravitated towards combat sports. At the age of eighteen (after a couple of fights at amateur), ‘Cold Blooded’ took the plunge and turned pro in 2018.

After just eight professional fights, her potential was apparent for everyone to see which ultimately earned her a UFC contract. Since joining the Dana White-led promotion in 2021, she has been on a stellar run, losing all but one of her seven fights there.
Her ground game, of course, remains the lynchpin of her MMA success and has seen her crack into the top three of the women’s flyweight division at light speed. Not to mention she is barely in her mid-twenties, which is why many call her a prodigal talent, and expect her to become a champ before very long.
