Corinne Laframboise discovered her pregnancy, and her will to fight fire with fire came to a screeching halt. The personal and family lives of fighters can frequently impact their performance inside the cage. However, in Laframboise’s case, her focus remained entirely on the present moment.

At 34 years old, the fighter was taken aback by the news and is eagerly anticipating the joys of motherhood, placing her booked fight on the back burner. With the UAE Warrior’s flyweight belt adorning her shoulder, she finds herself with few concerns at the moment. The Canadian phenom is now eagerly looking ahead to the start of a joyous family life.

The champ began noticing strange symptoms while she prepared for her battle against Rainn Guerrero. According to Laframboise, she ignored every sign. One could say she really wanted the fight for Dana White‘s series. Laframboise opened up to the BBC about how she surprisingly discovered her pregnancy.

“I didn’t have my periods but that happened to me often when you increase your level of training, it’s not a big deal. After that, I wanted to puke in the morning, [but] I thought it was because of the diet. And usually I love peanut butter and steak, but this time I was like ‘I don’t want any peanut butter…’ and I had big cravings for lemon. And that kind of thing was weird”.

Initially, the Canadian bruiser had considered the odds of it being a huge mishap. She recalled anxiously waiting for her results. “I was in the car waiting for my fiance and it was like the entire world stopped – we didn’t expect it,” she said. “The day after we did the scan to see if there was a baby or a mistake [by the doctor], and there was one baby.”  The fighter’s concern was natural, but it was resolved pretty soon as she said, “We heard the heartbeat, we saw the two arms, two feet. And [now] we know it’s a girl. And she’s healthy, no problem.”

She also spoke about how her belly miraculously remained safe as she trained for the fight. The champion fatefully dodged her sparring sessions, which could’ve proven brutal to her health. “The first weekend I was supposed to spar, two days before I sprained my ankle,” she said. “My foot was all blue and I was unable to spar for the entire training camp.”

Laframboise gets to learn about her baby

A routine pre-fight blood test ended up shedding light on her pregnancy. If all the symptoms didn’t add up, the results of the test definitely gave Corinne an idea. The UFC fighter took the news like a champ would and decided to give all her attention to her unborn daughter. Even at the cost of the Octagon.

“I want to focus on the baby, and what’s going to happen,” she said to the BBC. “‘In the best-case scenario, maybe I can continue to fight. I know that I’m made to be in the UFC.”

So for now, it looks like Dana White’s ambitious contender series will just have to wait for the champion to return. Meanwhile, other fighters might just take shots at one another so they could be the first ones to go up against Laframboise once she’s back. Will Guerrero get her match-up again, or was this her last chance against the best of their division? Looks like we’ll have a brand-new baby before we have a brand-new champ.
