The UFC arrived in Singapore and created history as they hosted their inaugural PPV event in South East Asia. A blockbuster strawweight rematch between former UFC strawweight champions, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Zhang Weili, went down on the UFC 275 main card. The bout lived to all the expectations and more.

Zhang Weili beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a spinning back fist knockout in the second round.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk last fought the same opponent at UFC 248, where she lost the strawweight championship bout via split decision. After that war, ‘Magnum’ fought twice against Rose Namajunas and lost both bouts (UFC 261, UFC 268). Thus, both fighters were eagerly waiting for a win.

Weili’s work with Henry Cejudo and fighting in two championship bouts when the Polish fighter took time off, saw improvements from the Chinese fighter that perhaps helped her have the edge at UFC 275.

The second UFC women’s strawweight announced her retirement

After the bout, Joanna Jedrzejczyk announced her retirement from mixed martial arts. She thanked the UFC President Dana White, matchmakers, former owner Lorenzo Fertitta, and walked out of the Octagon with fans cheering her astonishing run in the company.

The Polish fighter was the second UFC strawweight champion. She defended her title most times (5) in the division’s history.

Jedrzejczyk also fought for the UFC flyweight championship against Valentina Shevchenko, but came up short in her attempt to get the second UFC title.

As her first bout against Zhang Weili was an all-time classic, the expectations from the rematch were very high. Although the bout started the same as the first one, the finish was rather dramatic.
