Walkout songs are not just a way to introduce the fighters as they step into the arena. They are also a way to strike fear in the opponent’s heart. However, Christian Leroy Duncan took it all a notch higher and won the fight fans’ hearts with his walkout song. After all, the song was the child of one of his closest friends. But this story isn’t one with a happy ending.

Let’s find out which songs the English mixed martial artist walked out to in his UFC career. And what significance his walkout song for UFC 304 holds.

Landing against Gregory Rodrigues at UFC 304, Duncan is set to walk out to a song that was curated by his late friend, Joel Daniel Westcarr. Not too long ago, the Englishman was seen near his friend’s grave and revealed that he was indeed a phenomenal musician. He said, “Come to visit my friend Zozo. We’re here at his resting place, which is a place that I always come to. He was a very talented music artist. And we’d always say no matter which way we go, we’re gonna see each other at the top.”

‘Zozo’ lost his life at the young age of 20 in a motorbike crash. Without a doubt, the unfortunate loss of Westcarr’s life had a pretty big impact on Duncan. And the least he could do to pay tribute to his friend was walk out to a song that he created and win the fight.

Westcarr’s song wasn’t the one that Duncan previously walked out to. In his fight against Duso Todorovic at UFC 286, ‘CLD’ decided to walk out to ‘Fly Team’ by Yung Montana and Gripper. Needless to say, his choice of music is pretty decent. However, opting to enter the arena with his friend’s song blaring out of the speakers is a different feeling altogether. That was exactly what happened when he heard Westcarr’s song at his promotional debut at UFC 286.

“For my UFC debut, went to the O2 Arena, heard my friend Zozo’s song over the speakers in front of thousands of people. That’s a big motivator. For me, he’s always with us. I’m representing for him and his family. My good friend. That’s what I always got,” Duncan revealed.

CLD’s UFC debut was against Todorovic, which ended with a victory for Duncan after Todorovic injured his knee in the very first round. However, his next bout against Armen Petrosyan at UFC on ESPN 47 wasn’t that big of a hit. It was, in fact, the first defeat that Duncan faced in his professional MMA career. But his next couple of fights against Denis Tiuliulin and Claudio Ribeiro were phenomenal wins. Duncan won both of the bouts in the second round via TKO by elbows and punches. It does seem like the English fighter has found his favorite move, don’t you think?
