The feud between UFC stars Sean Strickland and Belal Muhammad has simmered for some time, escalating significantly since 2023. The two fighters have frequently exchanged verbal jabs, but tensions intensified when Muhammad voiced his support for Palestine. Strickland quickly condemned Muhammad’s stance, calling it a “cowardly response” on social media, adding more fuel to their ongoing conflict.

Moreover, Strickland’s controversial opinions on Muhammad’s faith brought out yet another fury of sharp jabs from the 170lbs champ. Additionally, Muhammad had previously expressed his wish to move up to 185lbs for a second title and it seems there hasn’t been any change in those plans. However, it also involved his ongoing blood feud with the former middleweight champion.

In a recent appearance on Submission Radio, Muhammad didn’t hold back when discussing Strickland. He expressed a desire for Strickland to lose brutally during his next fight. “I don’t hope [Strickland defeats Du Plessis]; I hope he loses and gets knocked out and put unconscious and doesn’t wake up,” Muhammad said. “Regardless, I would always want to move up and fight him whether he has the belt or not. That would always be a fight I would always say yes to. […] He’s literally the definition of trailer trash. . . . So when he says all this dumb stuff, people need to make him pay for it.”

Both Muhammad and Strickland are set to compete in 2024, though at their respective weight classes. ‘Bully B’ is preparing to defend his newly minted 170lbs gold against Shavkat Rakhmonov later in the year while Strickland is slated to rematch Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312 for the 185lbs strap.

Despite the heated rivalry between the two, a potential showdown remains a distant possibility. While Muhammad has expressed interest in facing Strickland regardless of championship status, fans remain divided over the feasibility of the matchup. Skepticism stems from the noticeable size difference between the fighters, with many questioning whether Muhammad might have targeted the wrong opponent.
