Dustin Poirier is all set to feature at UFC 302 when he takes on Islam Makhachev for the lightweight strap. Poirier was last seen inside the Octagon at UFC 299 when he took on Benoit Saint-Denis. The 35-year-old won the fight via knockout, bouncing back from his ‘BMF’ title fight loss at UFC 291. However, he will look to get back to winning ways on June 1 against the king of lightweights.

Poirier was once the Interim Lightweight Champion in the division. However, he has struggled to win the undisputed belt to date. With his quest to win the title still intact, and the proverbial curtain slowly coming down on the Diamond’s career, the Lousiana native is leaving no stone unturned ahead of his supposed final chance at grabbing gold. But is he maintaining his weight for the clash? Let’s take a look at what he normally weighs when out of competition.

UFC 302 is just a few days away and the fighters tend to be in top shape right now. Making weight is one of the toughest things for a professional fighter. Apart from being in shape year-round, fighters have to push themselves in the final weeks of the fight. Poirier is one of those rare fighters who rarely misses weight during his fights. Much of the credit goes to his disciplined lifestyle and consistent workout routine. ‘ The Diamond’ took to his X( formerly Twitter) and wrote a caption, “I walk around 180 -182. When I’m in shape mid-low 170s lad”.

Poirier currently competes in the lightweight division and will look to continue his winning ways at UFC 302. ‘The Diamond’ is quite big for a lightweight and also has strong striking power. He currently holds a record of 30-8-0 and has done it all except become undisputed champion. Poirier has always been under scrutiny for his weight. So much so that once Colby ‘ Chaos’ Covington took a dig at the former Interim Lightweight Champion.

He initially took a dig at his former team mate Dustin Poirier. He said, “I’m not a bully. I’m not like Dustin ‘Louisiana Swamp Trash’ Poirier. That guy, he’s a bully. He’s got to cut all that weight. He grew, he hit a growth spurt in his late 20s and he’s a bigger guy now. He walks around 185, 190.” He also criticized fighters who cut a huge amount of weight and termed it unhealthy.
