Dustin Poirier‘s UFC career is at a standstill after he suffered a huge loss against Justin Gaethje. Poirier and Gaethje came face-to-face at UFC 291 for the BMF title. Things did not work in favor of ‘The Diamond’ as Gaethje knocked him out in just the second round of the bout. After losing the bout, Poirier was highly disheartened; however, he kept up the spirit.

During the post-fight press conference, Poirier won the hearts of millions by talking about his love for fighting. Moreover, he also mentioned that the unpredictable nature of the sport pulls him towards it and that he would definitely come back. As he promised, Poirier will return to the UFC octagon, but surprisingly, it will be in a new division, and someone is waiting there to lock horns with him.

Dustin Poirier rose to great heights when he emerged victorious against UFC superstar Conor McGregor twice. After winning against McGregor at UFC 264, Poirier faced an unexpected loss against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269. However, he soon bounced back from the loss by winning against the former three-time Bellator lightweight champion, Michael Chandler. Little did he know that yet another loss was waiting for him, and that was against Gaethje.

Now, after some remarkable fights in the lightweight division, Poirier has decided to move up. Surprising the MMA fans, Poirier tweeted, “OK I’ll move up.” The undefeated welterweight star, Shavkat Rakhmonov, came across the tweet, and he wholeheartedly welcomed Poirier to 170 lbs. He wrote back, “OK,” as a response to Poirier. ‘Nomad’ is currently 17-0 as a pro and 5-0 in the UFC.

At the moment, the MMA community needs to wait to find out if a bout between Poirier and the #6 ranked welterweight will come to fruition. Meanwhile, Poirier is still licking the wounds from UFC 291 and analyzing what he did wrong.

After the UFC 291 bout, Dustin Poirier sat down with MMA Fighting and detailed the grave mistake he committed during the fight. ‘The Diamond’ mentioned that he didn’t listen to the words of his boxing coach, and this resulted in him losing against Gaethje. Poirier’s boxing coach warned him that Gaethje was going to fight him on the back foot. However, Poirier failed to listen to this advice and went forward with his own instincts.

He said, “My boxing coach told me last week that he believed that Justin was going to fight me on the back foot. And in my head, I didn’t think that. I thought we were going to crash, and that is not what happened, you know.This grave mistake committed by ‘The Diamond’ ended up with him losing the celebratory BMF belt.
