UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier is no stranger to trolls and haters throwing hate at him online. The 34-year-old has often been subjected to extreme trolling, especially after his fights against Conor McGregor that saw him claim two back-to-back wins over the Irish superstar. Along with making great strides in his professional career, ‘Diamond’ has also certainly displayed more maturity and a thick skin in responding to such trolls. This was evident in one such interaction on Twitter. Recently, one individual pointed out sarcastically that the American missed out on a McGregor payday.
Poirier‘s own word response to the hater shut him down pretty quickly. Interestingly, this is not the first time that the Lightweight has interacted with people online, as he is often seen responding to questions from fans on Twitter.

Prior to Poirier responding to the individual trolling him, the number two-ranked lightweight was seen interacting with another tweet pointing out how he submitted Michael Chandler at UFC 281. The 34-year-old tweeted out “Who ain’t got jiu-jitsu” making a reference to his quote during the post-fight interview.
Interestingly, Poirier talking about his Jiu-Jitsu was also a response to Lightweight champ Islam Makhachev criticizing him for a lack of grappling.
Going back to the tweet thread, an MMA fan jumped in; responding to Poirier stating “Who ain’t got that mcgregor payday”. This most probably was a reference to McGregor signing up against Chandler for the TUF stint, instead of fighting Poirier.
The former interim champion in response wrote “You”. And just that single word appeared to have done enough to shut down the troll.

But what’s interesting about the entire thread was the history involved in the quotes. It all started after Makhachev had poked fun at Poirier‘s black belt, claiming he didn’t have any grappling. As ‘Diamond’ went on to beat ‘Iron’, notably with a rear naked choke, the American found it a great opportunity to respond to the criticism.
Also, Poirier has eight submission wins out of his 29 MMA victories, meaning that the guy can grapple.

Although suggestions that he missed out on a McGregor payday are pure speculations. Since the Irish fighter suffered a horrible injury against Poirier himself; not to forget two bad losses, many would argue that making a comeback against Poirier would not have been a great idea. Also, stylistically Chandler does seem to be a better option for McGregor to make a return to the cage after a long layoff.

Ultimately, Poirier‘s epic response to his hater is what won the day for MMA fans. In doing this, the lightweight has proven that despite people throwing shade at him often; he doesn’t take them too seriously, focusing on growth and development in his already successful career.
