Dustin Poirier spoke to MMA Junkie’s Danny Segura in the build-up to his title fight against Charles Oliveira next month. Poirier headlines UFC 269 and will be finally looking to consolidate his life-long goal of becoming the champion. However, after Oliveira’s last performance, it is clear he is extremely resilient and won’t go down easily.
When talking about his upcoming fight, Poirier was also asked about a trilogy he recently wrapped up against Conor McGregor. Poirier leads the trilogy 2-1 after earning back-to-back TKO wins over McGregor this year. When asked about a possible fourth fight that McGregor seemingly wants to have, Poirier shut down the Irishman.
“As far as right now, [Conor McGregor trilogy] is in the past. I’m not even thinking about that. He says a lot of sh*t. Keep talking.”

Furthermore, a fourth fight so soon after their UFC 264 trilogy fight, could possibly lead to fans becoming bored. However, given the box office appeal of the business they’ve done together so far, a fourth fight isn’t out of the question.

In the same interview, Poirier also expressed a possible future where he moves up to welterweight after UFC 269. Chiefly, this would be massive considering the number of blockbuster matches available welterweight. A scrap against Colby Covington alone is enough to entice fans into wanting Poirier to move up in weight.
Not to mention, he would be chasing double-champion status and that would certainly serve as motivation for his plans of legacy building. Poirier has been actively competing in MMA for over a decade and he finally believes he’s reached the peak of his career.
