UFC lightweight star Dustin Poirier has been the talk of the town recently, but this time not for his elite striking skills. Instead, fans are eagerly anticipating when they will see him back in the Octagon. Poirier has been on hiatus since this summer when he squared off against reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Despite giving Makhachev a grueling toe-to-toe fight, Poirier ultimately succumbed to a submission, which was considered his swansong as the former interim champion hinted at earlier.

However, as time has passed, Poirier’s eagerness has reignited, and his zeal for victory is still burning strong. In a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s YouTube livestream, Poirier discussed his potential return.

Initially hesitant to provide details, he stated, “There’s something to share or something verbally we spoke about that is looking promising, but I can’t share yet.” However, after some pressure from the veteran journalist, Poirier revealed, “We are close. Next quarter, next year.”

In the same interview, Poirier had already mentioned his potential opponents, Dan Hooker and Justin Gaethje, with the “trilogy” against Gaethje left unresolved following last month’s cryptic post on X. Meanwhile, ‘The Diamond’ also opened up about his intentions for how he wants to conclude his remarkable journey in the MMA realm.

Where Does Dustin Poirier Want His ‘Last Dance’?

As Dustin Poirier nears the final chapter of his career, he has expressed a desire to end his remarkable journey where it all began. Once labeled a “hillbilly” by Conor McGregor, Poirier’s hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, holds special significance for him. With 30 wins to his name over a 15-year career, Poirier wants to wrap up his legacy in Louisiana.

While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Poirier opened up about his recent meeting with UFC officials, saying, “I will fight again; it’s just how things unfold. We’ll see when I do return. It could be uno más or dos más. I had a good meeting at the UFC headquarters. I was out there with Cecilius at a trade show, so I could come back.”
