Dustin Poirier has been in the fight business for nearly 15 years and has seen the highs and the lows of it all. The Diamondhas fought the elites, endured battle scars, and earned huge accolades in the cage, such as being an interim lightweight champ. He tried his hand at the undisputed gold against the dominant Dagestani champion, Islam Makhachev, but his immense effort fell short at UFC 302. He might have never touched the division gold, but his pedigree as a “fighter’s fighter” is cemented in UFC history.

Nonetheless, ‘The Diamondhas become a true shining gem in UFC and wants to close the chapter with a bang. Yes, he is planning on his last dance inside the Octagon and wants it to be in his hometown in Louisiana. Poirier updated that he is working with the UFC head honcho to make this dream come true in his home state. He teased the update as per his account to MMA Fighting and said, “It’s summer. July or August, probably. We’re working on UFC New Orleans. The opponent is still to be decided, though, and it will likely be someone from the upper echelons, as Poirier is determined to have a “legends only” fight, according to Front Office Sports.

Just because the location and opponent are not yet written on paper does not mean Poirier is not preparing for the inevitable clash. His training is going on in full swing with none other than training partner and friend, lightweight star Mateusz Gamrot. The American Top Team duo shared their training pictures with captions of their own. Gamrot wrote, “Always fun rounds with the Champ @DustinPoirier 💪 it’s great to have you back in gym 🔥 #attarmy.” Dustin Poirier reshared the X post saying, “Gamrot beat me up today!! I’ll be back, Sportsman!!”
