When asked who he would choose in a fight between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor, Poirier declared without hesitation that he would bet his money on McGregor. ‘The Diamond’ said “Dude, I’m glad it happened because I usually do bet on fights. I’m glad it happened right before that O’Malley – Yan fight because I would have lost a bunch of money. I would have bet Gamrot to beat Dariush, I would have bet Petr to beat O’Malley. I would’ve lost a bunch of money, so they saved me some money.”
Poirier acknowledges that there was a ton of gambling and betting mayhem going on in the UFC. He stated that while he was unaware of the specifics of the situation, he did not intend to disagree with their choice.
The insider trading
Poirier discussed how placing a bet on oneself was a bad idea. He acknowledges that boasting about betting on oneself is never a great practice. However, he thinks it would be worse to bet against oneself. The former interim champion discussed how easy it is to lose a great deal of money while betting this way. When questioned about betting as an insider, ‘The Diamond’ was very open. When it comes to insider trading, he said, that’s a different issue.
