Michael Chandler is coming off a bittersweet 2021. He registered a thrilling win over Dan Hooker on his UFC debut, but lost the vacant lightweight championship bout to Charles Oliveira. Subsequently, he suffered a loss to Justin Gaethje to finish the year with a 1-2 record.
There were some things he needed to clear off before heading to the octagon in 2022. One of them was his dislike of ‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier.
Speaking with premier UFC analyst Ariel Helwani, ‘Iron’ touched upon the matter and revealed that it stems from Poirier slandering him and ‘Do Bronx’ for taking the title fight.

Chandler explained, “The reason I was critical of Dustin Poirier has been his dismissal and just downright disrespect of me when I came into the UFC, into the UFC lightweight division… Instead of saying ‘hey, I decided to fight Conor, let these guys fight for the title’. He called, you know, he called the title ‘fool’s gold’ and I think that was part of it.”
However, ‘Iron’ no longer harbors any distaste towards Poirier as he opines that karma did its deed and showed ‘The Diamond’ the much-needed reality that he was missing before.

“Because that’s what he called the title that Charles Oliveira won and Charles Oliveira went out there and finished him. Now, we have to sit back and I’ll keep our mouths shut about who Charles Oliveira is unless we decide to say that he is the best fighter on the planet at 155 pounds. He’s our undisputed lightweight champion and I think Dustin Poirier ate his words that night.”
While Michael Chandler’s next bout is up in the air, ‘The Diamond’ is reportedly set to fight Nate Diaz.

Fans speculated that the fight might be around the corner, as it’s on short notice. Many believed that UFC 272 makes the most sense.
However, reports have suggested that fans may need to wait a bit more for the mouth-watering bout as the Stockton native is going through contract disputes with the promotion. UFC analyst Ariel Helwani reported the latest via The Ringer MMA show.
