UFC commentator and the host of the no.1 ranked podcast on Spotify, Joe Rogan, is arguably one of the most influential people on the planet. However, despite his growing success, it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine for the 56-year-old in the past.

We’re all well aware that the color commentator, despite not turning pro, is an avid martial artist. We can tell by his commentary, that his knowledge of mixed martial arts is robust. However, most of us are unaware of why he took up martial arts in the first place. The 56-year-old finally opened up about the reason he took up martial arts.

Joe Rogan reveals why he took up martial arts

In episode #2093 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the podcast host talked about his childhood, which eventually led him to start taking up mixed martial arts. Rogan said that when he was younger, he and his family moved a lot. He said, “I moved into new neighborhoods, like three or four times when I was a kid. So it was like, every time I was the new guy and I wasn’t a big guy and dudes were f***ing with me.”

“I was like damn I gotta learn how to fight. that was 100% my motivation like I didn’t I wasn’t like the kid that looked for fights, ever. I was just terrified,” he said.

He went on to reveal what he did in order to prevent the bullying. Rogan said, “I was like, Okay, I’m tired of this. What’s the solution? Like, I’m gonna learn martial arts. What Bruce Lee movies like, alright, it wouldn’t be like that guy. Is that physically possible?”

Joe Rogan, just like any other person on this planet, had hardships he had to overcome. The 56-year-old is stated to be quite a generous person even in real life despite his major success.

Bert Kreischer recalls the JRE podcast host’s down-to-earth nature

In the same episode, Bert Kreischer recalled an instance of the two meeting for the first time. He revealed Rogan’s generosity as he made the comedian feel at home the first time they shot an episode of the podcast.

He said, “When I met you, I said to you real quick. I said, ‘Hey man, I’m such a big fan. I need to meet your dog. I need to see your deprivation tank. I want to play in the pool’. And then we get high and then we do the podcast, and you were very generous.”
