Returning to Miami after two decades, UFC 287 offered the city a night of thrilling fight card matchups. Stacked with fighters that promised fireworks, the Saturday night event provided them the chance to celebrate success and a shot at history. Headlined by the middleweights Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya‘s grudge match, the Kaseya Center in Miami bore witness to high-paced action.

Further, the fight card paved the way for fans’ expectations, and especially a fight involving Gerald Meerschaert and Joe Pyfer attracted eyeballs. The middleweights, both at contrasting stages of their career, fought to shield their winning streak, but it was Pyfer who came out on the top with an impressive knockout.

Notably, ‘Bodybagz’ picked up the spectacular win in the exciting fight via knockout in the very first round and moved up in the ranks. Not only did he give a statement win, but also put the division on alert.

What happened in the fight at UFC 287?

Both the fighters started the fight slowly, but Pyfer, who added bulk to his frame, assumed the aggressor role. Meerschaert also tried to counter with kicks and put pressure in with his forward punches. Pyfer, the man on the rise, exhibited a vast array of punches and mixed his kicks well.

Meerschaert tried to replicate his kicks but the 26-year-old intercepted the kick and followed with a powerful right jab. The punch rocked the UFC veteran and Pyfer, who make his UFC debut in the last fight and currently riding on a 3-win streak followed up with a barrage of punches that put a dent in his opponent’s defense. And finished the fight with an impressive knockout.

In the post-fight interview with UFC commentator Joe Rogan, the 10-2 record holder demanded a bonus for his stellar performance. Further, he attributed his win to his coach, John Marquez, as he said, “I’m just a body doing the mission I was sent out to do.”

In addition, he opened up about his struggles to the famed commentator. Thus, he added, “I was never supposed to be here! I was a homeless kid. My parents never gave a sh*t about me! But I’m here! Let’s go!” 

Fans expressed their amazement at the spectacular knockout.
