Combat sports really take a toll on a fighter’s body. Knowing when to walk away from the sport ensures you don’t fade away. However, not every fighter has made the smartest decision when it comes to timely retirement, pushing on for a misplaced sense of glory and sometimes even money.
Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva is an ex-UFC fighter whose luck really seems to have run out. The 43-year-old fighter is not having the best of runs when it comes to his professional record. He recently lost to Salim El Ouassaidi in MMA and announced his retirement, only to announce that he would be coming out of it, only 8 days later.

Fans flocked to an Instagram post uploaded by ‘boisterousboyz’ that announced Silva was unretiring, to reprove the fighter’s decision, after considering the deterioration of his physical health.
“For the love of God, NOBODY sign this guy! He’s gotta stop 🙏🏿” read a comment, summarizing what thousands felt. “This is sad. He has the spirit to fight, but his body is just done,” read another slightly less brazen comment. Suggesting what most retired UFC and MMA fighters do, one concerned fan commented, “he should be in movies and not fighting.”

The fans really went all out in showing their disapproval. Comments like, “Dude lost like 11 straight give it up“, “he really wants to retire on a win“, and “He gon die in there,” proved one point – that people didn’t take the news of him unretiring as well as he would have hoped them to. One fan commented saying, “Looking forward to him and Tim Sylvia in slap fighting.”
Many social media users were worried owing to the MMA veteran’s long-term health.

Keeping aside his recent disastrous record in combat sports, Antonio Silva was quite a big deal back when he peaked. He has had some impressive wins in the UFC and in other promotions as well. Bigfoot Silva had been on a streak – a streak of 11 straight losses across four different disciplines of combat sports – MMA, Bare-knuckle boxing, Kickboxing, and Boxing.
He recently lost to Salim El Ouassaidi on June 10 and suffered his 11th loss in his professional career. However, he doesn’t seem entirely convinced that he has lost the fight and has openly expressed his want for a rematch against his opponent.
