Jon Jones is known for his fierce battles, but it seems he’s also no stranger to igniting social media firestorms. Recently, he took to Twitter to post a controversial and blunt tweet regarding heavyweight rivals. The UFC champion has been called out recently by Tom Aspinall, and Jones decided to indirectly address that in his tweet.

However, just a few minutes after posting it, ‘Bones’ took it down. But nothing ever truly vanishes from the Internet, and this tweet was no exception.

When it comes to Jon Jones’ next UFC fight, fans have a varied range of opinions. Many want to see him face Stipe Miocic. However, others feel that the UFC heavyweight champ should face someone from the new generation of heavyweights.

With a touch of sarcasm, Jones asserted that every rising star is hailed as the “next big thing” until he defeats them, diminishing their hype in retrospect. “Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them. And then it’s like well. Who was that guy anyways?”

Further, he referenced his UFC 285 bout against Ciryl Gane. Jones highlighted how just a short while ago, Gane was praised as the future of MMA, boasting unmatched footwork, heavyweight speed, and athleticism. However, after their fight, Gane’s stock seems to have taken a hit.

“Just a few months ago, Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best foot work, fastest heavyweight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone is like who the hell is that guy,” he wrote in his tweet.

Jon Jones’ deleted tweet has fans talking

  • “The old tweet and delete. Jon’s favorite technique nowadays.”
  • “Eye poke, tweet, delete, repeat. #justGoatThings”
  • “I really wish that fight woulda lasted more than a minute”

The UFC 285 fight against Ciryl Gane was Jon Jones’ debut in the heavyweight division. The fight ended with the former getting submitted in round 1. • “You still know who Cyril Gane is. He is not 100% correct. That’s why he deleted it. It was a poorly worded attempt at making his point”
  • “Drunk jones is back but he’s right”

There were several opinions about the tweet. While some agreed with Jones, others felt it wasn’t worded in the best possible way. Others pointed out how ‘Bones’ deleted the tweet like he always does. A social media user even pointed out how Conor McGregor and Jon Jones have similar tendencies of deleting tweets, “Jon and Conor are always at it.”

  • “Gane was definitely over hyped. But aspinal is a great fighter and if Jon was to beat him it would really show just how far ahead he is of everyone else at HW”

As Aspinall recently called out Jones, many were of the opinion that Jones was indirectly hitting back at him. However, Aspinall’s fans felt he could be a great opponent for ‘Bones’.
