After defeating Robert Whittaker, UFC middleweight Dricus du Plessis proved that he is here to stay and reign. The African fighter and Whittaker locked horns at UFC 290. The 29-year-old won the bout in the second round by knocking out the former UFC middleweight champion. This victory made many believe that ‘Stillknocks’ was indeed a legitimate threat to Israel Adesanya. One of them is UFC commentator Joe Rogan. The 56-year-old recently gave some serious compliments to the top-ranked middleweight.

The JRE podcaster even warned Adesanya, who might lock horns against Du Plessis in the future. Adesanya and Du Plessis have already developed an animosity toward each other over the ‘true African’ debate. Hence, the MMA community is thrilled to watch a potential bout between these two middleweights. Rogan feels that ‘Stylebender’ should not take ‘Stillknocks’ lightly, and Du Plessis approves the UFC commentator’s words. Let’s delve further into the matter.

Joe Rogan was praising Dricus Du Plessis in the ‘Fight Companion: September 9, 2023’ episode of JRE. During the episode, Rogan sat with Brendan Schaub, Bryan Callen, and Sam Tripoli to watch the bout between Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. In the episode, the former Fear Factor host warned ‘Stylebender’ about the strengths of ‘Stillknocks’.

He said, “Dricus du Plessis versus Izzy for the number one contender. Oh my god. Dude, I don’t know now. After watching that man. Dricus is f*cking scary. The way he beat the f*ck out of Robert Whittaker. Who saw that coming? Especially after Whittaker and Adesanya had a very close second match. He is so big dude. Every time I shake his hand, I’m like, ‘How the f*ck are you 185 pounds?’ He looks like a heavyweight.

The footage of Rogan warning the former UFC middleweight champion found its way to Instagram, and later Dricus Du Plessis shared it on his Instagram story and tagged the UFC commentator. It seems that the African fighter was delighted to learn that the most experienced UFC commentator found him scary and a strong opponent for Adesanya.

‘Stylebender’ disappointed the UFC commentator

Israel Adesanya disappointed his huge number of fans when he lost against Sean Strickland. ‘Stylebender’ became the UFC middleweight champion after winning against Alex Pereira at UFC 287. However, Adesanya was not able to defend his title at least once after becoming the middleweight king for the second time. He lost against Strickland via unanimous decision, and anyone who watched the bout figured out that ‘Tarzan’ was clearly dominating Adesanya.

Even though Rogan was not a commentator at UFC 293, he watched the live bout between Adesanya and Strickland from the sets of JRE. Soon after round five came to an end, Rogan called out the poor performance of Adesanya. The famed podcaster mentioned that the Nigerian fighter didn’t win a single round. Later, he claimed that ‘Stylebender’ might have won one round because of his strikes. However, even those moves were not up to par, as per Rogan. Currently, it is evident that, like the majority of the fight fans, even Rogan is waiting for a bout between Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis.
