Khamzat Chimaev has made a thunderous impact in the UFC since his debut in 2020, showcasing dominant wrestling and a relentless style that has seen him rag-doll seasoned opponents with ease. Undefeated and feared, ‘Borz’ has proven to be a force inside the Octagon. However, as speculation swirls about a potential title clash with Dricus Du Plessis, the reigning champion’s coach, Morne Visser, has hinted that they’ve devised a strategy to counter the Chechen-born powerhouse’s signature style.
Moreover, the doubts are clear now! UFC 317 won’t be the destination for the Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight, but the fight will happen. Visser confirmed the news during an interview with ‘Submission Radio’, and then he also discussed the game plan that ‘Stillknocks’ has in mind for Chimaev, and guess what? The South African plans to beat Chimaev at his own game.
While he’s been undefeated, Chimaev has been tested a few times by a couple of his former rivals. Du Plessis’s coach pointed that out, talking about how Gilbert Burns, who, according to Visser, is a natural lightweight, gave ‘Borz’ a tough challenge, along with Kamaru Usman, as both of these fighters took the Chechen-born to a decision. Du Plessis appears to have a lot of faith in himself because he wants to take the fight to Chimaev on the ground, who’s working on increasing his strength.

“He fought [Gilbert] Burns… Gilbert puts the effort in. He’s actually a lightweight. Then Kamaru [Usman] really gave him a proper run for his money with no preparation on the wrestling side,” Dricus Du Plessis’s coach stated. “So, that’s where we wanna fight him. I believe he’s training with bigger guys now to get strength. It’s not gonna help him. He needs to fight. It’s not a grappling or wrestling. He needs to fight. That’s where we wanna do. We wanna fight him on the floor and break him up into pieces on the floor.”
In addition to that, Visser also claimed to have been scouting Chimaev for a long time, and he’s not a big fan of him. And in that time of observation, he’s become certain that Dricus will finish ‘Borz’ just like the Chechen-born does to his opponents, with Robert Whittaker being one of the most recent examples. “He’s at an issue with easy or any one of the fighters. This guy is just annoying. My eyes [are] on him for a long time, and Dricus is gonna finish him on the floor.”

When rumors about Dricus Du Plessis suffering an injury ran wild, Caio Borralho was there to take advantage of it and even proposed an interim title fight against Khamzat Chimaev. Well, that doesn’t seem like it will happen, but in the meantime, ‘The Natural’ offered his thoughts on how he sees a possible fight between the two aforementioned middleweights ending up. Borralho predicted Chimaev would win, and since he’d trained with him in the past, the ‘Fighting Nerds’ leader claimed that nobody could prepare for ‘Borz’ and his style of fighting.

“I think Khamzat’s gonna win. I don’t see anyone preparing properly for Khamzat. Khamzat doesn’t do the normal stuff. He doesn’t care if you’re gonna bring the best wrestler to take you down because Khamzat doesn’t do wrestling. He does MMA wrestling. He does MMA cage work. I think Khamzat’s gonna win,” Caio Borralho told ‘MMA Today’.
Nobody wants to back down, and everybody would say they would end up winning. But who do you see crossing the finish line between Khamzat Chimaev and Dricus Du Plessis? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
