The first and former dual weight champion of the world, Conor McGregor has not yet competed under the promotion since his last defeat against Dustin Poirier back in 2021. Well, his return was slated to take place during June this year but even that fell through as he sustained another injury just before the highly anticipated fight and Michael Chandler refused to wait longer for him Chandler will now be re-matching Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. So, is this the end of the story of the UFC legend?
Maybe not! While having a conversation with the New York Post, the UFC CEO emphasized that Conor McGregor will return but the timeline will start in early 2025, “Let me tell you this, I was the one this year saying I don’t think he’s going to fight this year, amid all the talk and everything else, Conor McGregor will fight next year, early 2025,” said Dana White.
Who might be his opponent? Well, that question is a bit debatable considering the fact that ‘Iron Mike’ may or may not be fit for a return for the Jan-Feb card. So let us assume that it’s not Chandler, then who would be a better return fight for the former champ? Well, Nate Diaz can be a good fight for him and both of the fighters have even called each other out on multiple occasions. In addition to that, a final Dance against Dustin Poirier would be a blockbuster for the promotion, and if not that then McGregor could fight Ilia Topuria for a super match if the featherweight champ agrees on the fight.
