Undefeated UFC flyweight contender Jeff Molina‘s suspension from UFC has sent tremors through the MMA world. But why was he suspended in the first place? He was given a 36-month suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission because of his connection to coach James Krause and the doubtful circumstances of teammate Darrick Minner’s injury before he was supposed to clash against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke.

However, it seems like Molina does not think that he has done anything wrong. He did receive a three-year suspension for his involvement in the 2022 betting scandal, but he defended himself and dragged Conor McGregor into the mix.

An Instagram post by MMA fighting gave the details of the whole scenario and read, “Recently suspended #UFC fighter Jeff Molina breaks silence, response to the Nevada Athletic Commission saying he made ‘significant bets’ on a November 2022 #UFCFightNight card.”

In fact, he explained his case through his X profile and said, ” My words were twisted here. I wagered on the entire card. It’s how I made extra money on the site when I wasn’t fighting, and all I do is watch fights. I had wagers on both sides of the fight, and my “significant” bet was less than $500.” He also went on to say that a three-year suspension was not fair and brought up Conor McGregor. He said, “[Conor] McGregor can post his million-dollar bet slip every month on a main event as a fighter on the roster and no one blinks an eye. Definitely a double standard there.”

The thing is, he was allegedly involved in a wager on the bout of his teammate Darrick Minner at UFC Vegas 64. It was also later discovered that Minner had an injury that shifted the winning possibilities to opponent Shayilan Nuerdanbieke’s favor. Now, the twist in the tale is that Molina was apparently aware of this injury and did not disclose it. Molina went on to write that his total amount of wagers was only $350 for the whole event and admitted that he made a mistake betting when he knew of Minner’s injury. Well, what do the fans have to say?

Fans react to the scandal that Jeff Molina has put himself into

The fans were pretty speculative with their comments and said things like: “Pay the fighters more, and they won’t have to hustle on the side bit nobody is talking about that,” and “Sure he was wrong for doing that but at the same time he’s right about the double standard.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jeff Molina's suspension a wake-up call for the UFC to address fighter pay issues?

Another follower said, “The Double Standard accusation is interesting though, and should be talked about.” This was definitely aimed at how ‘The Notorious’ did post his several million-dollar bets throughout the years on UFC fights. However, other fans said, “lmao stop” and “U not Conor, my guy,” insisting that McGregor had name value, which was an incredible stamp in his resume that Molina does not have.

Another follower had a similar perspective and chimed in, “So I’m going to break the rules because the superstar breaks the rules… interesting take on that lol.”  McGregor’s contribution to the sport is undeniable, whether it was bringing the highest PPV buys or winning two belts. And compared to the 22-6-0 Irishman, Molina is a rookie with 11-2-0 in MMA and 3 wins in UFC till now.

He single-handedly brought UFC to heights that no one else could. Along with that, the Irishman is a businessman, part-owner of BKFC, a former UFC champ, and a huge asset for UFC. Now, McGregor is eager to run for President of Ireland and was praised by Team Dana White for the same. So, Molina is nowhere near what McGregor is in the combat sports world. Another fan said, “Stop ittt playing victim for what.”

Clearly, the fans favour McGregor and won’t hear anything bad about him. What is your take on this situation? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
