Sean O'Malley and Alexa Grasso headlining Noche UFC—are these new kits a game-changer or just hype?

As the date of UFC 306, rebranded as “Riyadh Season Noche UFC,” drew closer, UFC CEO Dana White intensified efforts to make the event a resounding success. Held at the Sphere in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day, the event is poised to be one of the most expensive UFC productions ever, with an estimated production cost of $17 million. While the total event cost remains undisclosed, the main event features a rematch between Alexa Grasso and former champion Valentina Shevchenko for the UFC women’s flyweight championship.

With only a month to go before UFC 306 Noche, UFC recently unveiled new fight kits for the highly anticipated event. Heavily inspired by Aztec mythology, the fighter gear was showcased by the Instagram MMA page @justviolence with the caption, “New fight kits revealed for Noche UFC featuring gods of Aztec mythology.”

These unique fight kits also feature the Noche UFC badge with the date of the event, September 16, 1810, commemorating the first Mexican Independence Day. The concept for this distinctive kit originated with Heidi Noland, UFC’s Senior Vice President of Global Brand, and was developed in collaboration with the creative team and Venum, the UFC’s outfit partner. The design process began in March, marking the first time the UFC has incorporated visual elements into its fight kits.

This post by @justviolence garnered significant attention from fans, who expressed their admiration for the UFC after a period of discontent. Many fans had been upset that Dana White did not include the highly anticipated Ilia Topuria vs. Max Holloway fight on this card, which was subsequently moved to UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi.

Previously, rumors circulated on the MMA-focused page “MMA Matchmaker” that UFC 306 at the Sphere would feature a featherweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway, as well as a Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili bout. However, it was unclear who the main event would be, although Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko was a confirmed matchup.

Meanwhile, another person was stunned by the kit’s design, claiming they couldn’t handle its boldness. They commented, “People are not ready for this card.” Another fan proudly declared it “dope as hell.” However, a different fan in the comments requested the removal of the golden gloves from the promotion, stating, “Get rid of the ‘gold’ p*ss colored gloves.” These golden gloves were introduced at the landmark UFC 300 event as the new “UFC Elite” gloves, touted for their ergonomic design and ability to prevent eye pokes. Unfortunately, they have been met with widespread criticism from both fans and some UFC fighters.

While another fan has crowned this kit with GOAT status—a title recently reserved for only a few sports equipment like FIFA’s Al Rihla and Al Hilm footballs—they commented, ‘Goated kits.’ What are your thoughts on the UFC 306 Sphere sports kits?
