Injuries are not uncommon in the sport of mixed martial arts. However, sometimes injuries can really take a toll on a fighter, which Joe Rogan got to know during a recent episode of the ‘JRE MMA Show’. Middleweight contender Joe Pyfer recently opened up on the aftermath of his arm injury, which took him into a dark place.
While competing in Dana White‘s contender series, Joe Pyfer went head-to-head against Dustin Stoltzfus. He lost the fight, but the concerning thing was that he broke his arm as well. That injury almost cost him his career, as he revealed to Joe Rogan. Let’s see what he had to say.

The arm injury Joe Pyfer suffered had some serious consequences in his career. He revealed to Joe Rogan that there wasn’t much the doctors could tell him about his return to fighting again since he had suffered significant damage. He said, “I was given a 30 percent chance of being able to fight, you know, if I got the second surgery… because of the nerve damage and not, like, having full functionality because there’s a lot of nerves in there, especially where I got surgery and how much damage and inflammation and what not was in there.”
Given how serious the injury was, Joe Pyfer guaranteed Joe Rogan that he would be feeling the effects later on in his life when he ages. It certainly isn’t the position that the middleweight contender wants to be in. “So they had to cut the capsule and whatnot. So man, when I tell you, like, I’m going to be hurting when I’m older, I’m going to be hurting,” Pyfer added. He further went on to explain the range of emotions that ran through his mind while dealing with the injury.
Pyfer was having suicidal tendencies
The 27-year-old middleweight contender regretted some of the decisions he made during his fight against Dustin Stoltzfus. He was looking to go for a submission move but was surprised by one of his opponent’s moves. Joe Pyfer further stated, “I have pain every day and whatnot, but yeah, I mean, I broke my arm in some bullsh*t fluke accident… I should have let go of the head, I was going to go for a guillotine and then he lifted me and I did not expect it.”

The injury was not something that Joe Pyfer had planned for. As such, he was starting to contemplate his life while dealing with it in 2020. He understood that there was nothing he could say to Dana White since it wasn’t the UFC CEO’s fault. Meanwhile, Pyfer also lost a lot of deals due to his broken arm. “[Been] that way 1000 times in practice, never been hurt. Yeah, ate me up, man… They closed the ambulance doors and you know, you don’t get to say shit to Dana White… I lost sponsorships, I was depressed, suicidal, and all that sh*t,” Pyfer added.

The 27-year-old is back to his strong self, even breaking Francis Ngannou‘s punching record multiple times. Moreover, Pyfer is on a 4-fight winning streak and it may not be too long before we see him in the title picture.
